Tips For Grooms - Keeping Your Bride Happy At The Wedding Reception

Being the perfect groom is not about pleasing yourself. It is about pleasing your bride and making sure she has a wonderful wedding day. She has been dreaming about this day for a long time and it is your job to help her realise her dream.

So remember to smile, be romantic, be charming, be diplomatic, be cool, and be a gentleman - no matter what anyone says to you.

On The Way To The Reception

If you are travelling together by car or carriage from ceremony venue to the reception venue, then again take the time to compliment your bride on how beautiful she looks and how much you love her. Do not, under any circumstances, start a conversation with the driver about football or the limo - and ignore her completely! That is the kiss of death for romance. So, focus your attention on your girl.

The Wedding Photographs

You must understand that wedding photographs are a very important part of the wedding for your bride. To her, the photographs will be a lasting, romantic record of your special day. So, do not spoil the occasion for her by making sarcastic remarks, complaining about how long it is taking, or by saying that you need a drink. Even if some of the other men present are making sarcastic comments, keep your peace and do not be coaxed into joining them. Be charming, diplomatic and smile. Remember, it is your wedding, not theirs.

Help The Photographer

Wedding photographs can take much longer than necessary if people are not co-operating with the photographer. So, try and move things along by setting an example to others and getting into position quickly. If the other men see you are not going to waste time by fooling around and acting stupid, then they will get the message and follow suit.

After The Speeches

You may think that when the speeches are over, that your job is done and then they can just start drinking yourself under the table. Wrong! You are now the official ambassador for your wife and you should act like one. You need to keep a clear head, because depending on your family and her family, there could be trouble ahead.

Talk To The Guests

You have lots of friends and family there, so take the time to go round and talk to everyone. Thank them for coming and spend a little time with everyone. This will make everyone feel welcome and part of your special day. There is nothing worse than being a guest at a wedding and being ignored by the bride and groom.

Conversations To Avoid

However, be very careful what you say to people and try not to cause offence. Remember the old adage - avoid politics, religion, and football. A silly comment made at weddings can be remembered for a long time. You do not want to bring out any family feuds that can spoil the atmosphere.

Be Diplomatic

Some people can start acting funny when they have a drink. So, if someone says something you do not like, then just ignore it with a smile and move on. Remember, nothing must spoil your wife's big night! So, if that drunken relative, who you never particularly liked, says he does not like all your wife's fancy friends, then just brush it off with smile and move on. After all, you do not have to see him again after the wedding. Keep cool Mr. Bond.

Help Your Bride

Alternatively, if your wife is having trouble with one of the members of her family, then move in diplomatically and ask her up to dance. Talk to her about something else and get her mind off it. Get her to forget about it and enjoy the remainder of the evening.

Guests That Will Not Dance

Some brides can get upset if everyone is not getting up to dance. However, just tell her that not everyone is a dancer and different people enjoy themselves in different ways. They are enjoying themselves and that is the most important thing.

If Things Go Wrong On The Day

Every bride wants things to be perfect on the day and some can get upset if things go wrong. However, there is no such thing as a perfect wedding. Things can go wrong and do go wrong. Therefore, it is your job to support your bride and gently remind her that in the great scheme of life, these things are not important. The most important thing is that you love each other, you are now husband and wife, and you will be spending the rest of your life together.

Thank The Bride's Parents

Remember to be charming to the bride's parents and ask your mother-in-law up to dance. Take that opportunity to thank her and her husband for helping to make it such a great day.

Thank The Staff

Don't forget to thank the venue staff and your band or DJ. It is the little things like this that make a great man. Never forget the workers who have contributed to your special day.

When You Leave

When you are both leaving at the end of the evening, be sure to give your wife a kiss, tell her that you love her, and you feel like the luckiest man in the world!

Have a lovely wedding!
