Minimize Overeating Tips on Controlling Overeating

You have learned portion control, you are incorporating healthy eating habits, and you are adding exercise to your daily routine. However, you are still gaining weight and still unable to lose that last five pounds.

The reason for this may be due to subconscious overeating. This is especially true when ordering in rather than preparing your own food. Here are SOS (help) tips that you can use to prevent overeating.

SOS tips:

1.) Solo Size Snacks

It is easy to overeat when indulging from a bag of chips or container of trail mix. Therefore, buy products that come in individual portion sizes, or as soon as you purchase items that trigger you to overeat, pack them into individual portion sizes. Pretzels, chips, and cookies, can be portioned into zip-lock bagsÂ…even ice cream can be divided up into separate Tupperware dishes.

2.) Ounces

Looks can be deceiving when it comes to drinks. Most fast food places have increased their small drink sizes from 12 ounces to 16 ounces. Many of us order a medium or large drink before even knowing how many ounces come in the size of the drink. For most beverages, an actual serving size is 8 ounces. Starbucks smallest size listed on the menu is a tall which holds 12 ounces. They actually have a size smaller but it is not listed on the menu. Before ordering beverages, ask how many ounces a size holds, be aware of the caloric intake of your beverages.

3.) Equally important, be aware that drinking calories can add up quickly and is often less nutritious. For example a grande frappuccino has about 1200 calories! In addition, a glass of orange juice has about 120 calories, whereas eating an orange only has 70 calories and has 3 times the amount of fiber. Be aware of every ounce of substance you put in your body.

4.) Split Restaurant Servings

Over 60% of Americans clean their plates at a restaurant even though restaurant meals can have up to four times a single serving in one dish. When dining you can prevent overeating by ordering 1 or 2 appetizers for your meal; by splitting an entrée with friends or family; or simply asking for half the meal to be wrapped to-go as soon as it is served which prevent s you from continuing to pick at your plate.

With the tips above you can avoid temptation and scale down portions as well as your trouble spots.
