Worksite Wellness

Employers increasingly are realizing the value that worksite wellness programs deliver as an effective tool to improve employee health, increase productivity, reduce absenteeism and lower health care costs.

A 2003 report published by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) highlighted how important it is for employers to incorporate health promotion as part of their business strategy. The report asserts that preventable diseases place a heavy toll on business, including lower productivity and higher health insurance costs.

The HHS estimates that $1.66 trillion was spent on health care in 2003. and it attributes a majority of those costs to chronic diseases and conditions such as heart disease, diabetes, obesity and asthma. Sadly, the money allocated for preventing or controlling these conditions is negligible.

In a recent article, American Cancer Society CEO John Seffrin reported twothirds of cancer deaths in the United States could be prevented through lifestyle changes in diet, exercise, cancer screening and “especially” tobacco use. A well-designed worksite wellness program, provided by your health benefits company, serves the best interests of both employer and employee.

Bottom line return on investment

Ron Goetzel, a nationally recognized expert in the field of health management, data analysis and applied research, said in a recent interview that with an investment of $100 to $150 per employee per year in health promotion, an employer can expect an average return on investment of approximately $3 for every $1 invested ($300 to $450 savings per employee per year).

Goetzel says, however, that these returns are not typically realized until two to three years into the wellness program. Legislative incentives Sen. Tom Harkin (D-Iowa) has been an outspoken proponent in seeking legislative solutions for a strained health care system.

“As a nation, we have a ‘sick care’ system that is focused on helping people after they get sick, rather than a ‘health care’ system which focuses on keeping healthy people healthy,” he says.

Harkin introduced the Healthy Lifestyle and Prevention (HeLP) America Act of 2004. One of the initiatives under Title II - Healthier Communities and Workplaces, provides tax credits to businesses that offer comprehensive programs to promote employee health and grants for small business.

Worksite wellness, getting started Implementing a worksite wellness program with your health insurance carrier can be accomplished with simple, lowcost strategies.

Offer incentives for participation.

Create a wellness campaign.

Schedule seminars on nutrition, diabetes and cholesterol.

Establish programs such as fitness, sleep diary, smoking cessation and injury prevention.

Offer chair massages or simple stretching exercises to do at the desk.

Change vending machine options to offer healthier, low-fat snacks and drinks.

Work with a health insurance carrier that can implement, manage and maintain your program. Actively promote employee participation.

A successful worksite wellness program can boost company morale, enhance productivity, reduce organizational conflict, attract superior workers and lower the rate of employee turnover.

The case for establishing a worksite wellness program is well worth the effort.

Diet Plans And Menus - The Lose Weight A Day At A Time Diet

The Lose Weight A Day At A Time Diet was created by Caroline Gosselin. Dr. Gosselin holds a doctorate in physiology-endocrinology. She feels that creating good daily habits will lead to losing weight. The best way that you can change progressively your food habits is to take into account hunger signals, engage in physical activity, and make sure to have pleasure. These suggestions mean you should make time for yourself, relax, and eat some special dishes. Here are some of the diet principles.

This diet is for women only. From time to time add a new food. Keep a log of what you eat and your daily activities. Set realistic objectives. You should put the accent on fruits, vegetables, and grains; they increase your metabolism and fill you. If you are no longer hungry don't force yourself to finish your plate. Don't count calories. Take the time to enjoy yourself. Drink water all day long. Practice a sport regularly. Follow the Canadian Food Guide. This means eating 5 to 10 servings of fruits and vegetables daily; 2 to 3 servings of meat or meat substitutes including fish, eggs, or legumes; 5 to 12 servings of grains; and 2 to 4 portions of dairy products. This guide clearly defines what is meant by serving size, which differs from one food category to another.

One advantage of the Lose Weight A Day At A Time Diet is its respect for hunger signals. It is not restrictive because you are allowed to eat your fill. This diet encourages you to discover new foods. It is felt that there are no disadvantages to this diet.

Here are two of the sample menus:

Menu 1

Breakfast: Oatmeal. Milk. Raspberries. Apple juice.

Lunch: Green salad. Curried chick peas. Cauliflower. Whole-grain bread.

The mid-afternoon snack is banana crepes.

Supper: Herbed trout fillet. Wild rice. Tomatoes provencales. Quark cheese.

Menu 2

Breakfast: Spelt flour bread. Honey. Yogurt. Fresh squeezed orange juice.

Lunch: Spinach salad. Salmon fillet. Artichokes. Lemon sorbet.

The mid-afternoon snack is fruit salad.

Supper: Asparagus. Lemon chicken. Brown rice. Ratatouille. A yogurt.

Some information in this article comes from a quite fascinating new book, La Bible des Regimes, written by Jenny de Jonquieres and published by Amerik Media. Her book describes more than 80 diets and weight reduction programs. Each diet is presented with 5 menu plans, a detailed discussion of its advantages and disadvantages, and lots more. La Bible des Regimes is available only in French at present.

The Law of Losing Weight

To successfully lose weight and to keep it off for the long term, there is one rule that must be followed. The rule is a very simple one but it is rarely followed by most people. This rule is that to lose weight successfully it requires Time. That is it, there is nothing complicated about that whatsoever. Unfortunately the majority of people that want to lose weight ignore this golden rule.

Most people want to lose weight as quickly as possible. However following this pattern almost always results in failure. People are always on the lookout for a quick fix that will enable them to shed the pounds and get the body that they want in a couple of months. This would be great if it was achievable in a safe and sensible way. The truth is that quick weight loss is a gimmick. If this is not the case why are more and more people becoming overweight? People never learn and they will continue to jump from one quick fix to another, leading to one failure after another, until they just give up.

The problem is that we now live in a society where we want everything as soon as we possibly can. Patience is no longer considered a virtue. This is true in our working lives and in our own personal lives. When it comes to losing weight people are not interested in what they are going to look like 12 months down the road. They want to look good now; they don't want to waste time in reaching their goals. People are prepared to purchase anything as long as that product is appealing to them and doesn't seem to involve too much work.

There are many diets and weight loss products that claim you will be able to lose anything from 20-40 pounds in a month. People believe the hype and any logic just seems to evaporate. This happens because the products appeal to your emotional senses and when that happens, logic becomes irrelevant. Now on the face of it many of these claims will sound wonderful to you, but unfortunately your body will not share this joy. Any sudden and drastic changes to your lifestyle will lead your body to fight you every step of the way. This is why after a short initial period of weight loss, any results you may have been getting will slow down to a crawl or more than likely stop completely. This is such a common story amongst people who try to lose weight.

Let us look at a couple of facts. Fact number 1 is that 1 pound of weight roughly consists of 3500 calories. Fact number 2 is that if you wanted to lose 30 pounds of weight within a one month period, then you would have to find a way to remove and burn 26500 calories a week from your current diet. This comes down to a loss of 35000 calories a day. No mean feat when you think that the average intake of calories for a woman is between 1800-2400 calories a day. It would mean a massive reduction in the food that you are eating and taking part in long periods of intensive exercise. Most people haven't the slightest idea of what the results of such changes would do to their well being?

The human body is a hugely complex entity. Not many people know that their bodies are actually large defence mechanisms. Its main role is to protect you and to keep you alive any way that it can. If it feels you need to be protected it will pull out all the stops, completely ignoring what you might want. Although your body is more than capable of change if done right,it likes continuity. For example if you have lived life of poor nutrition and little activity for a number of years, then this is what your body has become accustomed to, and it will cater for this lifestyle for as long as it can hold out.

When suddenly out of the blue you cut back heavily on the food that your body is used to receiving and impose a rigorous exercise program on it what do you think will happen? Your body will think that it is under some sort of threat, and it will try to defend against this attack. It will go into starvation mode and this will lead it to hang onto all the calories it can. Because it is getting a lot less calories than it normally gets,it feels threatened and goes into starvation mode. This means it will do everything it can to hang onto any calories, simply because it thinks you must be starving.

Apart from this, because you jump into a new lifestyle so quickly, your mind will fight you on this because it hasn't come to terms with what you are trying to do. It will do this by sending you constant messages telling you that it is too hard, you cannot do this, let us go back to the way it was, and so on. This is why at some point you will have to give up. How can you succeed when both your mind and your body are fighting against you?

You must understand that your body will accept change more easily if that change comes in small steps.Your mind and body will not accept change if it is done overnight. As time goes on add more activity, but do it steps. Using this method allows the changes because it is in your body's abilities to do so.

So Time is the golden rule for weight loss, and remember that you are where you are today because of the choices that you have made. If you want to be in a different place then make different choices.

Nutrition Affects Brain Function

It’s not just your body that needs good nutrition.

This fact was brought home to me in a big way while one of my good friends was receiving treatment for breast cancer.

She was enduring another round of chemotherapy. I called her nearly every day to see how she was doing.

And there was a detectable change in her and her voice. She was confused and had slurred speech.

I was so concerned I called her husband at work and started interviewing him about her medication, or if she was drinking or what might be going on with her.

After we had eliminated all other possibilities I told her husband to have her doctor check her for B vitamins.

But I was still surprised when I turned out to be right.

She was severely, dangerously low in B vitamins because she was unable to eat. This is a problem for many cancer patients.

She was hospitalized so they could give her B vitamins intravenously. She immediately started to sound better, more like her old self.

A person who is low in this nutrient may appear drunk and will certainly be confused. B’s make brains and nerves work.

Pregnant women who are deficient in B vitamins are more at risk of having a baby with nerve or neural tube birth defects like spina bifida and others.

And getting the nutrients we need is getting more difficult.

People may not know how to cook or they may be too ill to cook and eat.

So patients and lots of other people, too, fall back on fast food and prepared foods that may have few nutrients and lots of salt, sugar and fat.

And seniors do this, too. How much of the mental confusion seniors have is just a vitamin deficiency?

No one knows for sure.

But if you or a loved one is diagnosed with dementia, ask your doctor do a little more checking. If blood levels of vitamins are lower than they should be, especially if the problem is B vitamins, it’s easily cured.

Being able to manage your life is dependent on good nutrition and eating well.

It might be a good idea to take some good supplements, too.

It will make your brain and your nerves stronger and help you maintain your treasured independence.

Diet Plans And Meals - The Hallelujah Diet

The Hallelujah Diet, which is also called the Creator's diet, was initiated by George Malkmus, a former chemist who later became a Baptist preacher. After having survived colon cancer Malkmus became fully convinced that he owed his life to spiritual food. This diet is directed towards adults in good health. Unlike many other diets, here is no stated time limit. Its objectives are definitely two fold: not only weight loss but also coming closer to God by eating divine food.

The Hallelujah Diet includes an optional transition phase for those people who feel that their bodies need time to adapt to the new regime and effectively detoxify their systems. This diet excludes all foods of animal origin with a single exception, honey. The only foods allowed are fruits, legumes, and some nuts and grains. Furthermore, a full 85% of your food intake must be raw, which, in the eyes of this diet, is food as it was created by God. Cooked foods may include coffee (is that a food?), infusions, organic juices, soups, cereals, beans, and fruit.

While this diet has the advantage of including lots of fruits and vegetables it lacks many basic nutrients. Furthermore, it doesn't take exercise into account. The Hallelujah Diet does not provide balanced and varied food. It tends to be effective in the short term, but not in the long run.

Here are two sample menus: Menu 1 Breakfast: Oatmeal, soy milk, one apple and a cup of tea. Lunch: Green salad, tomato salad, grated carrots, and a glass of almond milk. The mid-afternoon snack is a strawberry and banana smoothie. Supper: Vegetable soup, vegetable couscous, and kiwis for dessert.

Menu 2 Breakfast: Muesli, soy milk, one apple and a cup of tea. Lunch: Salad composed of germinated chick peas, broccoli, red fruit salad, and a glass of banana milk. The mid-afternoon snack is strawberry and smoothie and nuts. Supper: Bell pepper salad, braised endives, unpolished rice, sauted vegetables, and a muffin.

Her book describes over 80 diets and weight reduction programs. She presents each diet with 5 menu plans, a detailed discussion of its advantages and disadvantages, and lots more. Diabetic Diet Plan - Manage Diabetes with Diet

If some is suffering from diabetes, it means that his body cannot produce insulin in normal fashion. As a result, it increases the glucose level in the blood. Switching to healthy diabetic diet plan can be of help at this time. Planning for an appropriate diet is a crucial part of your treatment journey, because it can manage the level of glucose in your blood.

Sensible selections of food along with healthy and disciplined lifestyle are the two key success points of diabetic treatment. A healthy diabetic diet plan must include six essential factors such as restricting consumption for sweet products, frequent eating, attentive towards carbohydrate consumption, consume plenty amount of whole grain foods, fruits and vegetables, eating low-fat products, restriction in alcohol consumption.

Diabetic Diet

If you are having diabetes, it doesn't mean that you should start eating special foods or depend on only strict diabetic diet plan. In most of the case, it is simply switching to a variety of foods in moderate amounts but following a fixed timing.

You should not follow a complicated diabetic diet plan, rather your diet should comprise with a wise selection of nutrients and low in calorie and fatty contents. There are two essential factors that you must not forget while preparing your diet plan. One is eating foods at regular time every day and the second point is the selection of healthy food in right amounts.

Carbohydrate counting is a crucial part for healthy diet plan, especially if you are on insulin medication. In fact, fat and protein counting is not as important as carbohydrate counting is. But that doesn't mean you should not be careful enough about the fat or protein intake. High calorie and high fat always increase the risk of various health complications including cardiac problems, high cholesterol and high blood pressure.

Diabetic Diet and Sweets Consumption

The fact says if you are suffering from diabetes, all your near and dear ones continuously warn you not to have sweets in your diet. Contrary to popular belief, scientific studies confirmed that sweets may not produce any harm if it can be used in a balanced amount in the meal plan. Although, different sweets affect blood sugar level in a varied fashion, but the total carbohydrate count matters the most. If you consider a small amount of sweets in your overall diabetic diet plan, it will not harm your health.

Vegetarian Diet

Some people believe that switching to a vegetarian diet may cure their diabetes problem, but it is not totally correct. Well, it can be managed well with vegetarian diet compared to a non-vegetarian one. In that sense, vegetarian diet can be a wise inclusion to diabetic diet plan.

There is no hard-and-fast rule for preparing a vegetarian diet plan. Vegan diet is the austere form of vegetarian diet. Vegans typically do not feed themselves on any sort of animal products such as dairy and egg. However, other vegetarians can eat these products.

An austere vegan diet comprises of almost no-cholesterol content in it. It also contains low saturated fat. It is mostly prepared with a generous selection of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and legumes. These food products are essentially high in fiber. Typically, a vegetarian diet offers lesser calories than non-vegetarian one. So it is beneficial for diabetic patients.

Vegetarian diet is an effective choice in diabetic diet plan because of its weight loss ability which significantly benefits people with type-II diabetes. Some scientific studies confirmed that vegetarian diet can make the body more receptive to insulin.

Vegetarian diet can not cure diabetes, but of course it can alleviate various diabetes-related symptoms including cardiovascular disease and kidney problems. But, obviously this is profoundly dependent on the selection of food.

If you have diabetes and you are planning to change your diet to a vegetarian one, you should consult your dietician. The dietician can guide you for the best selection of diabetic diet plan suitable to your health system

Nutritional Therapy for Pets Versus Veterinary Drugs

Nutrients are a natural part of the cellular environment. The use of nutrients as part of a therapeutic program for pets to promote healing and regeneration is based on an understanding of the wide role that macronutrients and micronutrients play in cellular physiology and veterinary nutritional biochemistry. Therapeutic nutrition enhances an animals healing processes by providing the cells with a better environment for regeneration and overcoming the myriad of stresses caused by injury or disease.

Historically, vitamins and essential minerals were considered only as agents used to reverse or cure the condition associated with their deficiency in the diet; however, clinical research now suggests that many disease conditions of the dog, cat, horse or bird, have nutritional or environmental components that, when properly managed, help potentiate the healing response. Vitamins have many other functions besides simply preventing the deficiency disease associated with their essential nature. For example, vitamin C may enhance immune function, neutralize free radicals, lower elevated cholesterol and triglyceride levels in the blood, detoxify some harmful metabolites and environmental pollutants, counteract allergic responses, act as an anti-inflammatory agent, reduce cataract incidence, counter stress, and aid in the treatment of degenerative joint disease and cancer. Many published studies show the involvement of vitamin C in the prevention and treatment of many disease processes. Vitamin C works in concert with many other nutrients to promote healing and recovery from disease. Research continues to demonstrate the healing potential of a wide variety of nutrients, such as coenzyme Q10, vitamin E, L-carnitine, the essential fatty acids, glucosamines, shark cartilage, and potent antioxidants, including proanthocyanidins.

Properly administered, drugs play an important role in veterinary practice. Drugs are effective in the treatment of disease, but they are usually foreign to the animal's body, and the pharmaceutical mode of action differs from that of nutritional therapy. Nutrients support and correct normal cellular metabolic pathways, whereas drugs may block or interfere with biochemical adaptation processes related to the disease. Drugs ameliorate a disease symptom by acting as analgesics, anti-inflammatory agents, and antimicrobials, for instance, by blocking an enzymatic pathway, modifying cell membranes, or changing a physiologic process. Aspirin works as an anti-inflammatory and analgesic agent by blocking the action of the enzyme cyclooxygenase, which is involved with the formulation of the prostaglandins that are part of the inflammatory response. Aspirin is also well known to cause gastroduodenal lesions in dogs, depending on the dosage regimen. Drugs are usually fast-acting but can exhibit potentially toxic side effects to our pets, especially when used over an extended time. Drugs generally treat symptoms and modify disease conditions, but they fail to potentiate healing by dealing with the basic cause.

Nutrients can function as therapeutic agents. Although nutrients tend to work more slowly than drugs, in the long run they enhance metabolic processes and help restore function and balance to the body. Nutrients can contribute important metabolites to cellular regeneration, improve the flow of energy, potentiate immune function, detoxify or neutralize cellular toxins, and improve enzymatic activity. Nutrients contribute to the optimal functioning of the cell during times of stress and disease and aid the body in the healing and regeneration process through natural means. With few exceptions, nutrients are generally free of side effects. Whereas drugs treat symptoms, nutrients can be used to correct the cause of a health problem, reduce symptoms, and help the animal's body rebuild healthy tissue.

Safety Considerations

Baring any specific drug/nutritional supplement interactions, nutritional products can be used with most all drug therapies. Such a complementary approach usually brings faster, more effective results because the nutrients contribute to the healing process and the improvement of health over the long term.

The following link will direct you to Nutritional Therapies for Pets where you will find information on nutritional supplements that are used for various health and disease conditions in dogs and cats.

Good Nutrition and Your Complexion

Our skin, the largest organ of the body, affords us protection from our harmful environment, making it an extremely important ally to good health. Learn some simple ways to promote skin health

There is a famous quote: "Health is Wealth". So, it is always important to uphold the value of proper eating and living a healthy lifestyle to stay in shape and for optimum health.

In fact, aside from having an attractive body, being healthy can also mean having a healthy skin, as reflected in your complexion.

Most people known to appear healthy looking are so, because they eat healthily. Because their inner beauty radiates and exudes deep from within, even without make-up.

Nowadays, looking good is not just vanity but is already considered one way of staying healthy. This is because of the protective function of a healthy skin. Additionally, a healthy diet is acknowledged by the medical profession to be an important factor in a glowing complexion and looking good.

Unfortunately, many people thought that simply eating the right kind of food would make them healthier and live longer. They did not fully understand, in addition, what an essential factor healthy nutrition is in having a good complexion and healthy skin, and the importance of this.

Here we justify the importance of good nutrition to maintain a healthy skin.

The human body is not able to produce all vitamins and minerals, which is why healthy eating is vital as a supply. For example, when people are exposed to the sun, the skin's reservoir of vitamin C goes down, and unlike most animals, humans cannot make vitamin C. So it is important to replace it by eating foods rich in vitamin C with which your skin can combat the harmful effects of the damage caused by the sun's ultraviolet rays.

A youthful and healthy looking skin can also be maintained by eating foods rich in vitamin A. Daily intake of vitamin A is proven to be an effective way of reducing the appearance of acne, wrinkles, and other skin problems. Take care with foods rich in vitamin A especially if pregnant or likely to become pregnant. Serious consequences can occur from excess supplies of this vitamin.

Antioxidant rich foods will positively benefit your skin by fighting the oxidants, or free radicals, that are manufactured when bodily processes burn oxygen as they generate energy. Foods that are rich in antioxidants include fruit and vegetables, especially the "green, leafy vegetables" like spinach.

In foods that are rich sources of carotenoids, e.g. beta-carotene, antioxidants will be present. Carrots are a perfect specimen. Richly colored plant foods provide a good source of antioxidants, for example berries.

Antioxidants can also be present in dietary supplements or skin care products, from which they will still be absorbed.

The source of fiber, or roughage, is a plant's cell wall components. Check out these foods: whole grains, legumes, citrus fruits, nuts, and vegetables for good sources of dietary fiber.

In its simplest form, fiber is an example of complex carbohydrate, essential for absorbing important nutrients into the system. Without fiber, some nutrients will be wasted instead of being used by the body. Fiber is also important in promoting good levels of excretion, and toxins will bind to fiber and be "escorted" out of the body. By adding fiber to your diet, an improved complexion can be achieved.

Ensure you don't overlook proteins in your diet; they promote proper growth and production of new skin cells. Proteins are chains of amino acids responsible for the skin's cell growth and maintenance.

Sources of protein in food are eggs, meat, grains, legumes and dairy products - for example milk and cheese. Complete proteins are those that contain all the essential amino acids necessary for building and maintaining bodily cells, including skin cells.

You can obtain all essential amino acids from animal proteins; with the absence from plant proteins of one or more. This should not create difficulties if all the essential amino acids are present in your diet. The products soy, quinoa, spirulina, hemp seed, amaranth and buckwheat, to name but a few, are a rich source of complete proteins in a vegetarian diet.

Finally, healthy eating will make a significant contribution to healthy skin, reflected in well maintained cells, as well as a good complexion. Those who are more aware of what they are eating will find that the care (or lack of care) they exercise will be reflected in their skin's appearance. Again: "You are what you eat".

Do not forget also, the skin can benefit from external application of beauty products containing the above mentioned ingredients.

Ballerina Tea - The Benefits In Losing Weight

When it comes to ways of losing weight in a safe and natural manner, many people would consider herbal formulations or products. Ballerina tea is one of the variations made from the green tea that is linked to dieting and cutting down body weight.

Just like the ballerina with her slim and lithe figure, ballerina tea is a natural herbal tea blended with all natural premium ingredients that include green tea, senna leaves, Malva Verticellate and orange peel. The tea diet is based on Lee Sze-Zhe’s medicinal formulation from a traditional Chinese medicine book dated way more than 500 years ago. It assists in the removal of impurities from the body allowing people looking to dieting achieve a lean dancer's body.

There are some feedback from consumers who had taken ballerina tea feeling abdominal cramps and diarrhea. The reason is because one of the main ingredients in ballerina dieting tea that helps in losing weight is senna which is a natural stimulant and laxative. Therefore, if a large amount of ballerina green dieting tea is being consumed, a person may experience severe diarrhea symptoms or abdominal cramps. Conversely, it can be a natural alternative relieve for constipation, flatulence and bloating of the stomach. It is advisable to consume it only in moderate amount within your body comfortable level.

Ballerina tea does not have any ingredient that burns off the fats or appetite suppressing ingredients to help in weight loss. Instead, it has good colon cleansing capabilities that assist in removing waste from the body system and that results in a healthier body and contributes to weight loss. The other benefit is that it also retards our body from aging faster, a direct benefit from purging impurities from the body.

Ballerina tea can be found in most health stores as it is a completely herbal product. Although it is a herbal tea, it can be powerful and effective. When you first start off the ballerina dieting tea process, try a diluted serving by pouring 2 cups of boiling water to one tea bag. It is recommended to start off really slowly as senna is a natural diuretic and can cause diarrhea. This is to gauge how the body responds to the diet tea before increasing the strength of the tea. When you are comfortably consuming the ballerina dieting tea, the frequency can be increased to 3 times a day in order to help in the weight loss process and subsequently increasing the strength of the tea on a weekly basis. It is important to start the tea weight loss regime gradually to allow the body to get acclimatized to the senna.

If you are a bit concerned about the smell and taste of herbal teas that put you off but would like the benefits of ballerina dieting tea, the one useful tip to enhance your experience in consuming ballerina tea is to add a small teaspoon of honey to sweeten the taste of the tea or you can try the different flavors that are available.

What Is Weight Loss Coaching?

What is weight loss coaching?

weight loss Coaching is widely regarded an emerging industry. This results in a lot of confusion in the market concerning what coaching is. To find out how many weight loss coaches are around I did a Google search and typed in the key phrase 'Weight Loss Coaching'.

And here are The Results: Google said they found all 12.3 million results in just 0.27 seconds. How amazing is Google??

WOW!!!! So this really IS an expanding area of the market place. OK, so exactly what is weight loss coaching?

The dictionary definition of coaching is:

a) private tutoring

b) instructing or training.

Coaching may be associated with a wide range of performance-based activities such as singing, playing a musical instrument, acting, sports or even learning how to drive a car. Coaching is the instruction of performers in the fundamentals of a performance activity and directs on strategy to improve performance.

Professional Weight Loss Coaching may be viewed as an ongoing partnership that helps clients produce fulfilling results with regards to weight loss. Through the process of coaching, clients deepen their learning, improve their performance, and as a result, their quality of life is enhanced.

The Coaching Process:

Quite simply, coaching focuses on where clients are today, where they want to be tomorrow, and what they are willing to do to get there.

At healthy Weight Loss Now the coaching philosophy Zelda Sheldon uses is one which honours the client as the expert in his/her personal life, and believes that every client is creative, resourceful, and aspiring to be whole. It is on this foundation that the coach's responsibility is to:

1. Encourage client’s self-discovery

2. Help clients discover, clarify, and align with what the client wants to achieve

3. Create client-generated solutions and strategies

4. Hold the client as responsible and accountable

The weight loss coaching sessions can be either face-to-face, phone, email or online at between 15 minutes to 60 minutes depending on individual preferences, budgetary and time constraints.

Nutrition For Crohn's Sufferers - 7 Ways To Get It

For a Crohn's patient with active symptoms, it can be difficult to get the nutrition we need. When it hurts just to eat anything, eating becomes something we don't even want to think about. Listed are a few ways I have used to get as much nutrition as possible.

Green Food Formula - This is a powder of Phytonutrient Dense Superfoods and sprouted grains. It mixes with water and you drink a couple glasses a day. The particular formula I use also has homeostatic soil organisms which help replace the living organisms our gut needs but lacks due to the constant shedding of the intestinal lining with Crohn's disease.

Protein Smoothies - Twice a day or as a meal replacement if eating is particularly painful. I make mine following a baseline recipe from "The Maker's Diet." It uses 2 raw eggs (organic, cage free have the most nutrition), about a Tbsp of coconut oil, about a Tbsp of flax oil, a couple Tbsp of raw unheated honey ( I buy from a farmer down the road), and about 8 ounces of plain goats milk yogurt. To this I add whatever flavors I feel like-a handful of berries (frozen or fresh), maybe ground coffee and almonds, maybe chocolate, the options are endless, but choose anti-inflammatory ingredients.

Cod Liver Oil - One Tbsp in the morning and one at night helps control inflammation in the small intestine.

Multi-Vitamins - They are NOT all created equal. You really do get what you pay for here. Chemically isolated and synthetic vitamins are largely unusable in your Crohn's ravaged body. There are multi-vitamins that are derived directly from the plants and foods which contain the nutrients naturally and give them to your body in their naturally occuring state. I have found several sources and while they are not cheap, they provide nutrients that would otherwise be wasted in our intestines.

Wild Fish - I find that fish is easier to digest than most other meats when Crohn's disease symptoms are active. Wild-caught, cold ocean water fish, such as salmon, tuna, cod, halibut are all good choices. They are not only protein dense, but they provide extra omega-3 fatty acids which fight inflammation. I keep tuna "lunch kits" around for handy snacking.

Goat's Milk Yogurt - Goat's milk is molecularly closer to mother's breast milk than cow's milk. Many Crohn's sufferers are also lactose intolerant and goats milk is the perfect answer. The yogurt from goat's milk (found at health food stores and whole food stores) can be flavored to your liking by adding a small handful of fresh fruits or berries such as apple or blueberries, both of which are anti-inflammatory.

Unpasteurized Goat's Milk - If you can get it (it isn't legal in most states to sell unpasteurized milk) has the added benefit of providing lots of healthy bacteria to your gut. Likely, you've been taking alot of medication including antibiotics which will have removed the good bacteria from your system as well as the bad bacteria. Pasteurization kills all the bacteria in milk, good and bad, which is why I opt for unpasteurized milk. In my area, we can buy "shares" of a goat, just like "shares" of a company. So I can get unpasteurized milk from the goat whose share I have bought, and the farmer isn't exactly selling unpasteurized milk.

These are just a few of the ways to get nutrition when your body isn't cooperating. And when you are feeling better, more anti-inflammatory solids can be added to your diet.

A Holistic Approach to Good Prostate Health

I have come to believe that there are some good things associated with getting older. For one thing, I am much wiser than when I was younger. I know this because I am able to admit I don't know very much about a lot of things at 52 years old. When I was 19, I knew everything. For me, it is now all about awareness. Awareness of my surroundings, the potential dangers of lifestyle choices, my attitude towards those choices and the motivation to do something about the way I live.

In my late forties, early fifties, I started experiencing the changes that aging brings about. I noticed I got tired more easily and didn't recover as quickly. I also had aches and pains in places where there were none before. Being a typical male, one of the things I was totally ignorant about was prostate health. I didn't know, for example, that prostate disease affects one out of every two men at some point in their lives. The prostate is a gland located in the male reproductive system. The prostate produces and holds a component of the semen. It is found near the bladder and the rectum. The prostate encapsulates a portion of the urethra, the tube that delivers urine from the bladder. An average prostate is the size of a walnut. If the prostate enlarges, the urine flow can be diminished or completely cut off.

I guess I shouldn't feel too foolish about my ignorance as only fifteen percent of Americans have even heard of a serious and painful condition known as prostatitus. I didn't hear about it until I started experiencing discomfort and urgency at times and incontinence at other times. Becoming concerned when the symptoms didn't go away, I naturally scheduled an appointment with my physician. He, in turn referred me to an urologist. I learned about the possible causes of prostatitus:

• Bacteria driven infection
• Yeast infestation
• Virus
• Food allergy
• BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia)
• Auto-immune response
• Possible rare tumor in or around the prostate
• Physical injury
• Uric Acid disorder
• Prostate stones
• Prostate cancer
• Urethral stricture

Yes it is a long list of possible causes. It sounds complicated and it may well be. I did find out that there are a number of things I can do to address prostate problems. It starts with diet and exercise, limiting my intake of caffeine and alcohol, giving up extreme habits such as smoking, and getting a prostate exam at least once a year. Diet turns out to be of primary importance and a large intake of fiber was recommended. It was also strongly suggested that I start a regular regiment of mild daily exercise. An annual PSA (Prostate-specific antigen) test was recommended and administered. This test measures the levels of a specific protein in the blood, which, along with a digital rectum exam is used to help detect prostate cancer in men over fifty. It is also used to monitor any recurrence of cancer. The effectiveness of the PSA test is still controversial but my urologist suggested it was a good idea to have the test.

I learned a bit about prostate cancer. If it is detected early, the treatment is highly effective. Nevertheless, 30,000 men die from prostate cancer annually. There is strong evidence that a dietary supplement of certain vitamins, herbal extracts and minerals can do much to prevent this type of cancer. In several studies it was found that men that had high intakes of the following, had much lower incidences of prostate cancer diagnosis: Boron, Daidzein, Grape seed extract, Green tea, Lycopene, Vitamin E, Selenium, Kohki leaf, Pygeum Africanum and Nettle root. In addition, Saw Palmetto berry has been widely documented as an effective treatment to lessen pain, swelling and irritation of the prostate. This is usually recommended for prostate cancer treatment, possibly inhibiting dihydrotestosterone, and slowing cell growth.

In learning about BPH (benign prostatic hyperplasia), I found that Saw palmetto has a long history of use. It is thought by some to have a very mild aphrodisiac effect. It is thought to boost the body's manufacturing ability of sperm and increase sexual energy. Saw palmetto extract is still used by many as the primary treatment for both short-term and long-term treatment of BPH. It also appears to be devoid of side effects.

Also recommended for good prostate health are:

Zinc & Copper, Stinging Nettle, Golden Flax Oil, Active Aminos™, Pygeum Bark, Beta Sitosterol , Vitamin B-6 (Pyridoxine HCl), Pumpkin Seed, Burdock Root, Cayenne Fruit, Goldenseal Root, Gravel Root, Juniper Berry, Marshmallow Root, Parsley Leaf and White Pond Lily Root.

There are a number of packaged combinations that are available that can supply these necessary vitamins, herbs and minerals for good prostate health. They are not as exotic and hard to find as in the past. There are some excellent sources of not only supplements for prostate health but a great source of information on holistic health.

As it turns out, I have a mild case of BPH. It is very common in men over fifty. I have taken my primary care physicians' and urologists' advice in all areas. Along with regular check-ups and tests, diet and exercise and my new supplemental intake plan. BPH is something I can live with. I've started to make healthier lifestyle choices and I feel good about it. My BPH doesn't seem to be a big deal anymore.

Diets, Exercise, Health and Weight Loss

Square one. Stop thinking about diet, diets, dieting, on a diet, fad diet, latest diet, celebrity diet, diet pills, diet plans, diet programsÂ…ad nauseumÂ…literally!

A diet is simply what you eat! Your diet can consist of chocolate donuts or alfalfa sprouts, but most "Diets", with a capital "D" will not set you free. Instead, they lock you in a cage. Eat anything other than what they prescribe, and you are a failureÂ…at least, so reads their literature.

Of course, what we eat and when we eat it can play a big part in weight loss or gain. Even where we eat can be important. Ever eat too much at Grandma’s on Thanksgiving? I have. How about that cocktail party when you went wandering over to the snack traysÂ…and drank one more drink because someone offered it to you? Okay, for me it would be sitting at the bar ordering one more beer (light, of course) because the game’s not over yet. Oh yeah, pass the chips.

THE LOWDOWN ON weight loss.

Take in more calories than you use, you gain weight. Use more calories than you take in, you lose weight. Proven scientific fact. Although we are all different and our bodies shuffle calories and file them differently from our neighbors’ bodies, we can all contribute to weight loss by taking in fewer calories or by burning more caloriesÂ…or both.

You’ve figured out that using both techniques simultaneously is more effective than trying to accomplish successful weight loss with only one.

I’m assuming that the reasons you want to lose weight are quality of life and concern about your health. Being over fat can contribute to major and minor health problems. You honestly believe it would be great to lose weight, but you don’t want to be miserable, and neither do the people around you.

By the way, I said "over fat", rather than overweight, because healthy people can weigh more than charts say they should weigh. Weight is not the problem. It’s the fat that cripples and kills people, so I was just making a point. According to the charts, when he was in the best physical condition of his life, Arnold Schwarzenegger was "overweight", but I doubt he was "overfat".

YOU CAN CUT CALORIES BY DIETING. RIGHT?

Somewhere in a "diet", you begin to feel deprived, depressed, and desirous of dessert. You might even feel like you’re being punished. Can’t eat the things you like. Can only eat asparagus, or bean sprouts, or three from this column and two from that columnÂ…except on the third Tuesday when the moon is full. Is it any wonder you and any other living human might quit a diet simply because of this nonsense?

As if discomfort and stress were not enough, there are actually a couple of hidden reasons why diets don’t work.

DIETING CAN MAKE YOU GAIN WEIGHT.

Most diets are structured on one principleÂ…cut calories taken in. Most of us burn calories at a given rate based on our age, physical makeup, activity, and heredity. The rate at which we burn calories is called the "metabolic rate". Our own metabolic rate is unique, and is simply the measure of how fast we burn, or metabolize, calories. As we grow older, the metabolic rate slows down and eating the same number of calories as last year causes us to gain weight. As we age, we also become less active, and our body gradually changes its metabolic rate based on our activity levels as well.

When you cut calories drastically, as in most diets, your body responds by lowering your metabolic rate. It now takes fewer calories to maintain your weight. While eating less, you might even find yourself gaining weight.

What usually happens when someone tries an extreme diet? Well, eventually, they usually fall off the wagon and go back to their old eating habitsÂ…perhaps even bingeing a littleÂ….or a lot! If their body has learned to get by on fewer calories, what’s going to happen to the calories that are now excess? They will be stored as more fat.

If calories are cut too drastically, the body may actually begin eating own tissue! It’s going to go after muscle tissue. The problem is that muscle burns calories more effectively than other body components. When you lose muscle tissue, or muscle mass, you burn fewer calories. You are also probably not going to feel as well or as energetic, so you will become less active. So again, simply dieting might create a double whammy.

Okay, you’ve slowed down your metabolism and lost muscle mass. Now you’re disillusioned and depressed because you’re not losing like you thought you would. You have less energy and you’re hungry all the time. You’re fed up with eating the same old stuff, you’re miserable, your family doesn’t understand, there’s nobody to talk toÂ…! Oh! One little dish of ice cream won’t hurt, will it?

YOU KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT ONE!

Next thing you know, you’re in the gutter surrounded by burgers and fries and chocolate milk shakes.

Really, now you’re depressed (which can contribute to weight gain) because you failed again. On top of everything else, you’re gaining again. How did that happen?

Remember what we said earlier about your metabolism slowing down and the body depleting it’s supply of muscle tissue? Well, with less muscle tissue you burn fewer calories, and, as you saw earlier, the body has slowed down its metabolic rate and doesn’t need as many calories to survive.

IT’S A VICIOUS CYCLE, ISN’T IT? WHAT CAN YOU DO?

You could hire a dietician to help you plan meals. You can take prepared menus shopping to help you buy the specific ingredients needed for healthy, nourishing meals. You could take some courses and learn how to do all this yourself.

There’s where the diet problem lies. To control calorie intake properly, somebody has to be in charge of the nutritional side of a planned weight loss program. You can take the responsibility yourself, but be prepared to spend a lot of time planning, preparing, and compensating.

There are organizations and companies who can provide the guidance, planning, and/or products to help. You might want to look at: NutriSystem, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers, or TOPS International.

These can provide you with a broad range of delicious planned meal choices which can help you stay on target. Forget the word, "diet".

EXERCISE AND WEIGHT LOSS:

Remember that part about metabolism and muscle mass?

When you engage in physical activity; gardening, walking, weight lifting, swimming, biking or dance aerobics, for example, you burn more calories during the activity than during times at rest or doing other less strenuous activities.

This is good, but it gets better. If the activity is strenuous enough, your metabolic rate can remain elevated for some time after the activity has ended. Uh Oh! I said “strenuous”, didn’t I? Look, what is strenuous enough for you is what YOU can handle, not what some Olympic miler can do. Do what you can, and your body will figure it out. In fact, your body is going to get all upset and team up with your mind and convince you that this is JUST TOO HARD if you try to do too much at first. That’s one of the reasons many well intentioned exercise programs don’t last. The other main reason is that people expect too much in too short a time. It took years to get out of shape, you aren’t going to reverse that in a week, a month or even two.

The degree to which the metabolism is raised, and the length of time it remains raised, will depend on various factors. Two key factors are the intensity and duration of the activity. The bottom line is that if you want to lose or control your weight, some sort of activity is important.

HERE’S THE SOLUTION:

Combine increased activity (exercise) with a controlled calorie intake, and you have the basic ingredients for healthy weight loss. Forget the pills and fad diets. Exercise and nutrition are broad areas, and there is no way I can go into all the possible variations on those themes here, so take responsibility for your own education.

The programs mentioned above, in addition to guidance on exercise and nutrition provide one other highly important ingredient for successÂ….SUPPORT!

Some have counselors, meetings or online support. The key is that you can communicate with others who know what you are going through.

Remember, you are only human, so forgive yourself if you slip and fall. It’s the getting up and moving forward again that’s important.

Tips for Being an Organized Work at Home Mom

Working at home comes with many advantages, it also comes with its own unique set of challenges. You may find it is much more of a struggle organizing home paperwork then it was when you were housed inside of an office building. It may also be much harder for you to manage your time. Much like working in an office finding the right balance between work and home life is key to having a successful career or business.

The importance of a schedule can’t be emphasized enough. Both a work schedule for you and a daily flow schedule for your kids will help you have the most productive, happiest days. Mom’s working at home may have an unrealistic vision of what can be accomplished in a day. Then when you haven’t accomplished everything you set out to you feel overwhelmed and defeated. A very specific schedule and goals can stop this from happening. It can also help to prevent you from falling into all of the procrastination traps that mom’s working out of the house can easily find. If you hold yourself to a schedule it will be harder to justify the thirty minutes you just spent browsing the internet shopping for a new fall purse.

First decide when you are going to work and how many hours you will need to do your job. This will vary depending on your children and how many hours your job or business will require. If you are at home alone with an infant or toddler that needs much of your attention nap time may be the obvious choice for work time. Likewise if you take a child to preschool or have a nanny or other help during the day these would be good hours to designate as work hours. In addition to knowing when you are going to work, know when you are not. If your preschooler likes to tell you all about what they did that day schedule an hour break when they come home to spend with them looking at their new artwork and giving their stories your full attention. If you schedule in the break you won’t have to be thinking about work you should be doing while your four year old tells you their day’s adventures. Also know that if you are working around an infant or toddler’s schedule right before nap or a meal are not going to be good times to attempt to be productive.

When putting together your schedule be specific. Moms working at home may schedule their day casually, such as I will work on project A in the afternoon. Until suddenly the deadline for project A is looming closer and closer and you are nowhere near complete. Try something like this instead, from 6-7am I will return emails in relation to project A, from 7-8am I will complete an outline, ect. Make sure the goals you set for your time blocks are actually obtainable. If you can never complete what you want to you’ll start feeling overwhelmed and like you are constantly playing catch up.

Reduce your to-do lists. This is an important part of organizing home paperwork. If you have to-do lists written in five different locations chances are things are falling in to the cracks. Find one central location to track all of your to-dos.

Keep your work area organized and clear of things not work related when at all possible. If you find your kids things, or extra mail and house clutter, keep ending up at your work area try a drop basket. Keep a small basket, or dedicate a drawer, to things that don’t belong at your desk. Then at the end of the “work day” distribute these items to their actual home. This way you won’t get distracted ten times a day when you go to put away a child’s toy.

Plan your kid’s schedule ahead of time. Take twenty minutes in the evening after everyone has gone to bed to pull out activities, art projects, or cds that you will want to use tomorrow. Having activities on deck will save you time the next day from having to think of something and prepare it on spot. Plan and prepare snacks or any part of tomorrow’s meal that you can. For example chop vegetables, defrost, or pre-measure ingredients.

If you plan time for work and time for family you really can have it all! Organizing home paperwork is a central part of being successful and happy as well as avoiding becoming overwhelmed and late with your work. Your family will grow and change. You have to be always flexible since you will have to grow and change with them. Take each new day as it comes and know even if yesterday didn’t go as you planned you have today to try again!

Weight Loss

For those of you interested in weight loss, exercising, dieting, and training, even sleep and stress patterns must all be taken into account. As far as exercise goes, muscle building is far more effective, in terms of weight loss than cardiovascular exercise. Exercise is an integral part of the process of weight loss, and weightlifting exercises are better than cardiovascular exercise in terms of weight loss because in weightlifting, fat is translated to muscle, where as in cardiovascular exercise, fat is melted away, so to speak! So, as regards weight loss, plan on squats, push-ups, sit-ups, and strengthening exercises.

For weight loss, as far as dieting goes, I have found the South Beach Diet to be quite effective for me. Weight loss requires mostly a “low carb” diet, where your focus is to eat certain kinds of “carbs” conducive to weight loss, versus others. It is also a very healthy way of eating that promotes weight loss, and as you can pretty much eat as much as you want, anytime, it is not a difficult weight loss diet to maintain in the long run. I do not actually cook any or all of the recipes listed in the book called “The South Beach Diet”, but I do eat the main ingredients of that diet regularly, for weight loss, and I stay away from potatoes, breads, and pastas. For weight loss, I use only low fat butters, sauces, etc. I have succeeded in weight loss in a very short amount of time, and I now maintain a regular, healthy, low fat diet. I also exercise minimally, and I will probably never be faced with having to go on a weight loss diet again. If so, I know how to lose weight very quickly!

In the practice of martial arts, and integral to weight loss, cardiovascular exercise, weight training, and even stretching are all integral parts of training. Aside from weight loss, I studied and practiced the martial arts when I was very young, and I was heavily influenced by Bruce Lee's works. Later, I competed in Tae Kwon Do, and weight loss was an integral part of competition fighting. My weight loss plan and fitness training was then based a lot on the same ideas that Bruce Lee had. I will now outline a simple and yet effective weight loss and exercise plan.

For weight loss, start with a “low-carb” diet, eating boneless/skinless chicken breasts, London broil, fish and shellfish, and very lean hamburger, for meats. Also for weight loss, for vegetables, only eat green and white vegetables...broccoli, cauliflower, asparagus, green beans, and brussel sprouts are good choices for weight loss. Also for weight loss, do not eat fruits or desserts, etc...use only low fat butter or butter substitutes, egg substitutes, fat free cheeses and salad dressings, and next to no salt and pepper...for weight loss, if you are creative, you can make excellent dishes all the time, and eat as much as you want, whenever you want, and maintain your weight loss plan. Make sure to also stay away from breads and pastas, and sweets period...at least for a time. For weight loss, you can gradually implement fruits, pastas, breads, and other things back into your diet after you have reached your target weight. Again, for weight loss, moderation with these things is the key! Oh...no beer! For weight loss, best to enjoy “low-cal” alcoholic beverages in moderation. Red wine is the least fattening!

To drink otherwise? Lots of water is best!

Visit Our FREE Section to find “TAO OF JEET KUNE DO”, WEIGHT LOSS AUDIO BOOKS, E-BOOKS, BRUCE LEE MOVIES, MARTIAL ARTS MOVIES, VIDEOS, DOCUMENTARIES, AND MUCH MORE ON DIETING, WEIGHT LOSS, MARTIAL ARTS TRAINING, SPORTS EXERCISE, AND MUCH, MUCH MORE!!!

Regarding weight loss, for an exercise program, plan to spend no more than thirty minutes once every several days. For weight loss, your muscles need time to heal, and to build muscle (thereby translating fat into muscle), and you will not experience soreness. For weight loss, exercising for short periods of time every several days, even in front of the television, is an easy enough program to maintain. For weight loss, and to tone or build muscle, exercise should be both fat burning and muscle building at the same time. Do many repetitions of each exercise, and as many sets as you can...for weight loss, you want to work your muscles and develop a “sweat”. Do your repetitions as close together as possible...work SLOWLY towards your weight loss goal! Weight loss, true fitness, and mastery in the martial arts requires long term and repetitive workouts.

Weight loss with a diet as suggested above, and a thirty minute exercise routine two to three times a week; a weight loss workout including squats, push-ups, and crunches, and/or any number of replacement exercises and routines will produce weight loss in anywhere from two weeks to thirty days - anywhere from seven to fifteen pounds of weight loss, honestly!

My own personal regimen for weight loss and exercise, unless I am practicing the martial arts, is simply several sets of leg squats, several sets of push-ups, and several sets of some stomach exercises such as sit-ups, or tummy crunchers...for weight loss, the list of available exercises for martial arts training, even Bruce Lee's own collection of exercises, is exhaustive! For weight loss, I do this thirty minute workout in front of the television every seventy-two hours or so...plenty, as I am no longer trying to execute an axe kick, and I am happy with my own weight loss!

A Bruce Lee workout often includes weight loss...a Bruce Lee workout includes stretching, bending, running, dipping, kicking, jumping, traditional muscle building exercises, weight lifting, rope skipping, medicine ball handling, etc. Even for weight loss, you would do well to read “Tao of Jeet Kune Do”, by Bruce Lee, as Bruce Lee studied almost all arts of combat, their weight loss programs, and their exercise programs, and included his suggestions in the above mentioned masterpiece.

What about weight loss and diet pills? It is really just speed, or caffeine, and suppresses the appetite. So, just do some cocaine, and you will experience considerable weight loss! (Pun intended!) For weight loss, diet pills, and especially cocaine, are not healthy for you, and they interfere with your sleep patterns. Besides weight loss, cocaine use has even more drastic side effects! Also, once the pill or drug is abstained from, the weight usually returns as the appetite is no longer suppressed.

In closing, if you want to succeed in weight loss, feel good, look tone or even muscular, adopt my version of the South Beach Diet, as a regular way of eating. For weight loss, begin with an exercise routine such as mine, and perhaps increase the length and severity of your workouts over time. Get plenty of sleep, vitamins and aspirin are helpful, and set about to work with your weight loss plan, chiseling the body you have always wanted for yourself...maybe we will see you in an upcoming Jackie Chan movie!

Healthy Weight Loss Program: Start a 3 Day Fruit Fast.

The 3 Day Fruit Fast.

Once a month I cleanse my body naturally. I do this by using the 3 day fruit fast where I eat nothing but fresh fruit for three days. I drink water, natural tea, or freshly juiced fruit juice. I will not drink any store bought or commercial juice because of the preservatives and additives. I only drink freshly juiced fruit juice.

The Purpose.

Frankly I wish I was a complete vegetarian. That way there would be no need for a fruit fast. But, since I am not I need to thoroughly cleanse my system monthly. My diet is 60% to 70% fruit and vegetables and I do not have the toxic build up I had in the past, but the benefits of the monthly natural cleansing are mental clarity and focus, increased fiber and improved regularity, better digestion and blood circulation. This improves your kidneys, liver, heart, arteries and veins. Additionally, the fast will reduce the risk of heart disease, help prevent cancer, lower my blood pressure and cholesterol, and even help me drop a pound or two. Part of a healthy weight loss program, the 3 day fresh fruit fast has a greater emphasis on health to me than weight loss. The purpose is to improve and maintain my health even though I will lose weight.

Colon Cleanse Vs. 3 Day Fruit Fast.

I recommend a regular Herbal Cleanse. A good product offers the same benefits of the fast plus more. It is a deeper whole body cleanse with natural nutritional vitamin supplements that when you properly follow the directions you will achieve a total body cleansing and greater weight loss. You should only do a Herbal Cleanse once a quarter. The other two months I would choose the 3 day fruit fast. Both are important to your healthy weight loss program.

How to Successfully Complete Your 3 Day Fruit Fast.

Preparation is the key to success. You should eat a serving of fruit every other hour. That means about 6 to 8 times a day. A serving is approximately a handful of fruit. to be prepare first you shop. Make sure you purchase a wide variety of fruit. Then on a daily basis you prepare the serving size. If you purchased melons cut them up and refrigerate them so you can easily grab one serving every 2 hours. The last important key to your success is to write in your journal what you eat and drink daily. Also journal the time of day you eat and drink. This helps keep you on schedule.

Drink Plenty of Water.

Whether you choose this is the month for me to cleanse my body by employing a Herbal Cleanse or eating only fresh fruit for 3 days it is very important to drink plenty of water every day. The water is essential to the cleansing process. The fresh fruit or a Herbal Cleanse may loosen unwanted waste in our bodies but the flow is made possible because of the water. So not only is water necessary as a lubricant our bodies are primarily made of water. Water enables every cell in our body to function properly and to reproduce itself properly. Without enough water, sunlight and fresh air the mechanics of our bodies will not function properly. So my guide to drinking plenty of water during the 3 day fruit fast is to have a 6 to 8 ounce glass every hour. If you are drinking bottled water, be prepared to drink 5 to 6 1 liter bottles a day.

Increase Your Metabolism.

Finally, if you drink plenty of water and eat a serving of fruit every two hours you will not be hungry and you will not over eat. Another very important benefit is that your energy will increase, dramatically for some people, and you will have a higher metabolic rate.

So I am prepared with my water and prepared fruit to successfully complete these three days. Today I begin my 3 day fruit fast.
