Diet Soda Low Calories, Great Dangers?
Different nutritionists suggest different types of nutrition and all of them claim that their method is the best one if you like to live long and healthy life. If it’s about health, everything is worth trying till the person finds the way of living and eating that suits him best, but the fact is that everything is changing and that runs for some of the famous myths about food.
This time the myth about the famous healthy diet soda is broken. Researches have found out that is not everything so good when it comes to diet soda. Maybe the level of calories is lower but like in the hidden object games, there is something suspicious behind the surface, more dangerous than the overage level of sugar in sugar - sweetened beverages. As a matter of fact the consumption of diet soda is related with increased risk of heart attack and stroke.
The American Stroke Association on the International Stroke Conference held in Thursday in Los Angeles presented the results of its researches connected with the side - effects of consuming diet soda. According to the results of this research, accomplished on 2500 people, people who have been drinking diet soda every day had a 61 percent increased risk of cardiovascular events compared with the ones who didn’t drink any soda.
Nine years after the beginning of the research that started in 2003, occurred 559 cardiovascular events, which included various forms of stroke as well as heart attacks. In the research were included certain factors, such as age, sex, race, smoking, exercising, alcohol and daily calories intake and to them were added additional factors related with heart disease risk (for example metabolic syndrome) and the risk was still 48% higher for people that use diet soda everyday. Â
By this study the Professors of this Association have concluded that ‘diet soda is not an optimal substitute for sugar - sweetened beverages’.
If we consider that the number of people consuming diet cola is truly big and the same goes for the manufacturing companies, the reactions that have followed this theory are not surprising at all. Many experts – professors and doctors have been denying this, saying that this is a link, not proof of cause and effect.
According to them the research is not objective enough because except the fact that these people have been drinking diet soda every day, we are not sure what else have they been doing every day, maybe they were on some lousy diet or something and perhaps those other factors were responsible for the stroke and heart attack risk, not the diet drinks.
However, opinions are divided about what is right and wrong, once again. It would be absurd if we totally neglect the results of the researches of the American Stroke Association because it’s about an official group of experts but also it is pretty sure that this research is unable to stop suddenly the consumption of soda. Once again the conclusion is that the truth is in moderationÂ…
