Importance Of Pregnancy Information

Nowadays are the days of the informative era. The information plays the role of the greatest importance. It is concerning all aspects of the human existing. The most important period of the human's life is pregnancy. It is important as for mother as well for her future baby. For example if the pregnant lady is bitten by a dog, there is a great chance that her future child would hate or/and fear dogs.

Psychology calls it the subconsciousness. Being not even born jet, a baby's personality is already forming. Most subconscious fears and desires as well as talents are forming during intrauterine development. So, all the life of the person depends on the pre-natal stage. That's why we may say that the importance of pregnancy information is very high.

There are lots of aspects concerning pregnancy. The most important factors are nutrition and living conditions. Also there are things to avoid during pregnancy. Let's start our pregnancy information observation with them.

First of all pregnant women should avoid drugs. Of cause all people should avoid drugs, though in the case of gravid women it is even more actual. Using drugs most likely would cause a miscarriage (some drugs cause uterus involution, some just make a serious harm to the embryo). If you were lucky and the baby is born there is a very little present that it is a healthy child. Also most probably that it is already drug addicted.

Alcohol and tobacco are prohibited as well. If you have ever used the mentioned things you should experienced nausea some times you smoked or dinked. All the matters that are swallowed up by the mother are shared with embryo. Imagine if a cigarette was enough for you to vomit the first time you had a smoke, then what should feel a little creature in the womb after your cigarettes? Alcohol and tobacco may become a cause of the miscarriage as well as drugs. Also they may lead to serious defections of the baby's organism.

The other thing pregnant women should avoid is physical load. Pregnant woman should not lift things that weigh more than three kilos. It may also lead to miscarriage or baby's organism defections.

There is special nutrition for gravid women. They should avoid caffeine. Also they should not eat much sweet or fish. There are some kinds of fish that are prohibited to eat during pregnancy: sharks, swordfish, king mackerel and tilefish. Special diet for gravid ladies includes products that contain: iron, folic acid, calcium and vitamin D. Of cause there are some other elements that are necessary for pregnant women. Professionals have developed lots of special diets.

Living conditions are also very important. There should be no stresses for pregnant woman and her baby. Emotional state of the mother influences the offspring. Also there should be appropriate ecology and comfort. Clean fresh air is a necessary condition for a pregnancy period. That's why it would be right to go somewhere in the countryside. Also, there shouldn't be a lack of attention to the pregnant woman.

Buying HCG in Canada

There are more obese people in Canada than most other countries. According to obesity researchers Canada ranks third among countries with a large percentage of obese people in their populations. It's no surprise that a great number of weight loss programs, among them the HCG weight loss program, are gaining increasing popularity in the country.

It is not difficult to purchase the HCG hormone and supplies in Canada. But between the injectable and the oral HCG form, the latter is easier to buy. Not like in the US where the substance needs a doctor's prescription, the hormone is readily available in Canada over the counter. There are also health shops where you can buy the hormone. Places where you can buy the hormone in Canada include Quebec, Montreal, Calgary, Vancouver, Halifax, Toronto, Winnipeg and Victoria.

If you are not anywhere near the above mentioned cities, there is another place you can go for the hormone - - the internet. The internet provides a listing of all the hormone suppliers in just about any country in the world. You do have to go down to the bottom of the list as the firsts in the listing are usually the most reliable and most reputable companies. Companies normally get to the top of the listing because of their large volume of visitors. It is easy to come to a conclusion that more people are visiting these websites because they offer quality products and services.

Just like other people in other parts in the world, Canadians should be cautious when choosing the online vendor. Sadly, online scams are becoming rather frequent. The easiest way to check the vendor's reliability is to ask fellow HCG dieters. Most probably your fellow dieters have also visited these websites, and bought hormones from them. They will not hesitate to tell what their experiences are with said vendors. They will even give you recommendations on where you should buy HCG in Canada.

Tips for RV Trips

It's always a pleasant adventure to drive down in your RV across the open roads and enjoy the natural beauty to your hearts content. RVs have become an indispensable item for people who love to embark on long journeys to the wildernesses and great outdoors. Indeed it is much better than the boring journeys in your cold old car - its so much fun to enjoy the comforts of home while traveling across scenic locations fro your dream vacation. However, one of the major challenges that are faced by all RV owners is to drive safely and successfully on open roads.

Just because of its sheer size it is often more difficult to drive a recreational vehicle compared to a car or even a truck. Particularly, when you are on the highway, it is important that your motorhome blends in well with the smaller cars that are much more agile and your car doesn't really block the road and create trouble for other drivers on the road. When you are driving recreational vehicle it is important that you are well aware of the road and traffic rules. There are various points that you need to be particularly careful about when you are on the streets in your RV.

Be Patient: Always keep in mind the size of your recreational vehicle, it is not your small car that you can blaze through the road. While on your recreational vehicle it is important to be patient and drive slow. Recreational vehicles are just not the type to drive aggressively at a high speed. Its just like you are adding wheels to your home and driving it along, so you need to give due consideration to its bulk and keep the speed in control. For those drivers who are a bit impatient it is often difficult to adjust to this slow moving giants but for a safe travel it is important that you adjust your mindset. Try to keep your speed below 10 miles per hour. 10 miles per hour would be relatively good speed for a RV that would keep things under control yet cover enough ground in short span.

Plan and Create Your Road Map: If you can plan your road map well that would probably save you more than half the trouble with your RV. Try to avoid interstates and highways that are particularly known for high-speed traffic. Also, it is very helpful, if you can plan your tour to avoid driving through busy cities during rush hours. Try to avoid the more commonly used routes and find alternative routes that has relatively less traffic and often offer better natural view. However, it is also important that while deciding on these alternative routes, you have complete information about these routes so that you don't get stuck at some point due to narrow or bad road conditions.

Never drive in bad weather: Bad weather conditions put up a challenge for all drivers irrespective of the type of vehicle they are driving and the challenge is even greater if you are driving a RV. Motor homes and recreational vehicles generally do not take to bad weathers and are particularly difficult top drive during high strong winds. It is advisable to take off the roads during bad weather and drive another day once the weather has calmed down.

Avoid Slopes: Try to avoid slopes, both uphill and downhill when driving your RV. It becomes very difficult to drive up steep slopes and also to control your RV while moving downhill. Even if it requires you to travel a few extra miles off your route it is always better to do so than to take the risk of moving up or down the slope.

Towing Vehicles: Towing a vehicle is a common practice for RV owners but it makes driving an RV all the more difficult. You need to be doubly cautious when you have a towing vehicle along with your motor home. It is advisable to detach towing vehicle when you need to backup your RV. Unhook the towing vehicle and park it safely, then ask someone to guide you, when you back up the RV.

Campground Reservations: Always try to make your campground reservations in advance. Use the campground directories to locate and plan the campgrounds that you would use for your overnight stays. If you are going to stay at a campground where you have never stayed before, it is also wise to do your reservation for just one night to ensure that the campground meets your requirements than to do a longer reservation for cost cutting.

RV trips are meant for enjoyment and pleasure. Following these basic guidelines would definitely be helpful to ensure road safety and better organize your RV trip for hassle free enjoyment.

The 6 Best High Fiber Bran Cereals

A healthy breakfast should have plenty of protein and fiber, while keeping the extra sugar out. In general, women need about 25 grams of fiber per day, while men need about 38 grams per day. Choosing high-fiber bran breakfast cereal is a great way to get a good jump on your daily fiber need. The FDA requires a high-fiber cereal to contain 5 grams fiber per serving in order to state that claim on the box

We used the Foodessentials database to compare High Fiber Bran Cereals to see which brands offer the most fiber, and then take a look at the added amounts of sugar in each.

Bran Cereals (grams of fiber or sugar per 100 grams cereal)
(Brand - Product - / Fiber / Sugar / Colors / Preservatives
Back to Nature - Heart Basics Hi-Fiber Multibran - / 25.0 / 20.83 / yes / no /

Back to Nature - Heart Basics Banana Nut Multibran - / 21.82 / 18.18 / yes / no /

Kellog's - All Bran Wheat Bran Flakes - / 17.24 / 17.24 / yes / yes /

Malt-O-Meal - Raisin Bran - / 11.86 / 35.59 / yes / yes /

Kellog's - Raisin Bran - / 11.86 / 32.2 / no / yes /

Kellog's - Raisin Bran Crunch - / 7.55 / 37.74 / yes / yes /

Fiber:
When we arrange our cereals based on fiber content, Back to Nature Heart Basics Hi-Fiber Multibran has the most bran per 100 grams, with their Banana Nut Multibran close behind. A closer look shows each cereal gives you a whopping 12 grams fiber per individual serving or cereal. Kellog's Wheat Bran Flakes also score high on the fiber list. The remaining raisin bran cereals contain more fiber than typical breakfast cereals - about 5 to 7 grams per individual serving.

Sugar:
When we look at the amount of sugar in each of our high-fiber cereals, we see that our list almost flips over - the raisin brans all have more than 30 grams of sugar per 100 grams of cereal. That's a lot of sugar considering you should keep your consumption of sugar under 40 grams throughout the whole day. Back to Nature high-fiber cereals have less sugar.

Colors, Preservatives and Common Allergens:
Back to Nature high-fiber cereals are the highest in fiber and the lowest in sugar - and they also have the added bonus of not containing any preservatives, although all the cereals have added natural coloring agents. Since all of these cereals are made with wheat bran, they all contain gluten and all contain some form of corn an ingredient. Both Back to Nature cereals and the Raisin Bran Crunch list dairy products. Banana Nut Multibran and the Raisin Bran Crunch both contain tree nuts, but none of these products contains peanuts.

And the Winner Is:
Both the Back to Nature high-fiber cereals add plenty of fiber without going overboard on the sugar. Both varieties contain 5 grams protein per serving and are fortified with vitamins and minerals. Either cereal would make a nice breakfast topped with low-fat milk, soy milk, rice milk and a few blueberries or other slices of fresh fruit.

Article originally produced by Foodessentials:
At Foodessentials.com you can search and compare foods by ingredient, additive, allergen and nutrient properties so that you can better find foods that suit your specific dietary needs. Find preservative free - lowest sugar fruit juices, highest fiber peanut free cereal, lowest sugar aspartame free sodas. The power to choose better food is now in your hands.

DASH DIET: The No-Pain Diet

A group of researchers from 5 major medical centers found that eating a specific diet rich in nutrient-dense fruits and vegetables, whole grains and low fat dairy can be a powerful tool in lowering blood pressure.

The DASH DIET(Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension) was found in 1996 to lower blood pressure about the same as a blood pressure medication would, and since that time has quickly become one of the most often prescribed diets in clinical practice today.

The DASH Diet is recommended by the American Heart Association, in the USDA's 2005 Dietary Guidelines for Americans, and is featured in the US High Blood Pressure Guidelines.

The DASH DIET Study 459 people were chosen to participate in the DASH DIET Study. They were randomly assigned to one of three different types:

·The "typical American diet"

·A diet with more fruits and vegetables, but otherwise similar to the typical American diet

·The "DASH diet" - rich in fruits, vegetables, and low-fat dairy products; moderate in fish, poultry, and nuts; and reduced in red meat, sweets, and sugar-sweetened drinks.

To assure they weren't doing anything else that might lower their blood pressure, participants were asked not to make any major changes in the physical activity levels during the study.

Participants were weighed frequently to make sure their weight stayed constant; if someone gained or lost weight, they were given a bit less or more food to eat to get their weight back to what it was.

Salt/sodium intake was the same in all three diets - slightly lower than the U.S. average, but still higher than what most guidelines recommended.

The Results

Those who ate the typical American diet did not see a change in their blood pressure.

Those on the fruit and vegetable diet experienced a significant lowering of their systolic blood pressure - The upper number, which is a measurement of blood pressure in the arteries when the heart contracts to pump out blood - but little change in their diastolic pressure.

But the men and women who ate the DASH DIET for eight weeks experienced a significant drop in both their systolic and diastolic blood pressure readings. Changes occurred within a week of starting the DASH diet, stabilized within two weeks, and stayed lowered for the remainder of the eight weeks.

On average, blood pressure fell 5.5 mmHg (systolic) and 3.0 mmHg (diastolic) among all participants (including both those with normal blood pressure and those with hypertension).

In participants with high blood pressure, blood pressure dropped an average of 11.4 mmHg (systolic) and 5.5 mmHg (diastolic).

These improvements in blood pressure are about the same as what can be achieved with a single antihypertensive medication.

There were positive health outcomes of the DASH diet beyond lowering high blood pressure.

Most importantly, perhaps, the DASH diet lowered the study participants'cholesterol levels.

When blood cholesterol is high, cholesterol and other fatty substances collect on the walls of your blood vessels and in time restrict or block the flow of blood to your heart.

High cholesterol, which is generally caused by a diet high in saturated fats, is a major risk factor for heart disease.

The DASH diet is low in total and saturated fat.

People who ate the diet during the study, dropped their cholesterol 14 points. The "bad" cholesterol (LDL) fell 11 points. The level of good cholesterol (HDL) also fell by 3.7 points (this type of drop in HDL is seen when people reduce their overall fat intake). Combining all the effects (changes in blood pressure, LDL, and HDL), there was an important improvement in overall cardiac risk with the DASH DIET.

A later study was done at the Boston University Medical Center, which offered the DASH Diet in an online form to employees of a large US company.

Over 4,000 people enrolled in the DASH DIET program.

They received weekly email reminders to log in to the site for information on topics such as weight loss, exercise, reading food labels, grocery shopping and more.

They also were encouraged to track the changes they made to their diet, exercise, weight and blood pressure online.

After one year in the DASH DIET program, study participants had lost weight and lowered their blood pressure significantly.

They started eating more fruits and vegetables and moved from higher fat dairy products to lower fat versions.

After the success of the DASH DIET program, the researchers decided to offer the program to the general population online at DASH DIET

The reason the researchers think that the DASH DIET is perfect for all Americans is that it doesn't take a whole lot of learning.

It deals with real foods that are easily found in every grocery store across America, and allows dieters to choose how they plan to meet their food servings goals with foods that they enjoy.

The Basic Facts on Physiotherapy

If you have a musculo-skeletal problem or injury, you might be given a referral to a physiotherapy clinic. If you have gone to one before, you know what to expect. If you are new to this service, you might ask, what is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is also known as physical therapy. That answers the question of what is physiotherapy for many people. However, if you have not had any dealings with this form of treatment, you need to know more.

A type of health care, physiotherapy concerns itself with providing physical healing methods for many different kinds of injuries and illnesses. Some of these techniques are done in a hands-on manner, by using massage or manipulation of the musculo-skeletal system. Knowing what is physiotherapy is crucial to getting this kind of help.

Education is a part of what is physiotherapy. A physiotherapist will teach a patient how to care for their injuries. He will teach exercises to do at home so that therapy can continue beyond the walls of the clinic or hospital. He will teach ways to overcome difficulties that cannot be cured.

Another part of what is physiotherapy is rehabilitation. Patients have injuries from sports, car accidents, or assault. These injuries can be treated through physiotherapy. Given the right treatments and an injury that will respond to treatment, much progress can be made. Full functioning may be regained. It may even be possible for them to go back to work rather than being laid up at home.

An answer to what is physiotherapy is what kinds of treatments physiotherapists use. Heat, ice, and ultrasound are used to relieve pain and stiffness. Massage, chiropractic, and other hands-on methods are important. All these methods tend to promote better health, both physical and psychological.

Equipment for helping patients regain their strength and mobility are a part of what is physiotherapy. This equipment may allow a person who is partially paralyzed to get the most exercise possible. This is crucial in maintaining the integrity of their spines and muscles.

What is physiotherapy? It is a carefully planned and executed treatment strategy. It is based upon assessments of the conditions that patients suffer. If all goes well, the patient will return to their original condition. If this is not possible, the goal is for the patient to reach a goal that is the best movement and lack of pain that is possible.

People who are referred to a clinic may ask, what is physiotherapy? However, they will be given quick answers to this question. After an initial evaluation, they will be scheduled for treatments like ultrasound or acupuncture. They will be assigned exercises to do at home. A good physiotherapist will begin treatment right away.

People, who ask what is physiotherapy, often do not consider the preventative side of the field. It is a part of the work of practitioners of physiotherapy to encourage exercises and postures that will help patients avoid physical injuries and conditions requiring their services. An excellent physiotherapist will have fewer return patients, but the flow of people needing physiotherapy continues.

How The Faja Helps In Controlling Weight

Looks is the most precious asset a woman holds, as long as she has a stunning looks, admiration and appreciation is all for her in her social circles. Having an inspirational figure in the present times is a common thing, but sustaining it for long is something that requires efforts on the part of women.

In order to sustain the good looks a woman acquires, she usually takes good care of the diet she consumes, amount of liquids she takes in, and of the regular exercise schedules that she intends to stick with. Yet, some times it happens that just a small carelessness results in accumulating extra fats on the body, which never tend to vanish for the rest of the life time.

The good news is that, now a woman can keep her figure into a desirable shape, and that is too without making any extra efforts. She is no more needed to spare time for exercise or to keep herself from eating her favorite dishes due to the fear of fats. The problem of increasing weights has been solved by the faja products. Faja is the word generally used for a belt or under garment that is used to control the weight. Wearing a faja costume provides tightness to the body that hinders one from consuming more food. Though on wearing such products women usually feel odd and feel like putting them off instantly, but once they stick with it, it becomes a habit and something of routine.

The most important feature of a faja product is that it makes one feel active. It improves the circulation of blood in the body and maintains the metabolism that results in reducing fats. Constant use of faja provides visible results in loosing weight. Unlike the weight controlling pills and muscles pulling exercises faja is free of all the side effects. One can easily wear it under the routine garments. For better and quick results one needs to wear it for major part of the day.

While using the faja, a woman is not required to stick with dieting or exercise schedules. Though doing so can increase the pace by which the results would become visible, however one does not need to rely upon these things entirely. Those that doubt the effectiveness about the way faja works, they should know that faja like products have been in constant use of women for centuries. Women have always prefer buying and wearing the under garments that could help them make their figures look attractive. Be it a bra or some other under garment, the main purpose of wearing it has always been about maintaining the shape of the body.

Looking the effectiveness of faja products and realizing their demands some producers have tried launching the fake products in market. Such products usually contain the names that are similar to the famous faja products. Here we would suggest you that instead of relying upon these fake products, always go about buying those that offer guaranteed results and that have gained good reputation in the market.

Tips for Selling Books Online

As you spend time scouting for books, you will develop an instinct for what might bring good money and what probably will not. Remember, you may not find some titles listed online, especially antique books. This could mean that you have a rare book or that the book is worth nothing so no one bothered to list it.

Choose a net profit point for profitability on a book sale. Remember, you will have shipping costs, book storage expenses and shipping supply expenses. Also, your time will be involved with hunting for books to sell, listing books online, answering questions from potential buyers, and corresponding with your buyers. You might find that you average $8.00 for all of the above costs. You want to make sure that the potential selling price of the book is more than your cost for the book plus eight dollars so that you make a profit.

Before listing your books online, be sure that you have shipping supplies available, an email address, a reliable internet connection, and a safe place to store your books.

After you find books that you are ready to sell, decide where you want to sell them. Two popular places for book sales are Ebay and Amazon. Amazon generally commands higher prices, but Ebay may get the books moved faster if you use an auction format.

Be sure to answer any potential buyer questions promptly. When an item sells, ship promptly. Email the buyer to let them know when the package shipped along with a tracking number if available. Excellent communication is key to getting a good seller rating.

Treat your online book selling as a business, keeping your business expenses separate from your personal expenses and maintaining good records.

Having a buyer thrilled that you were able to provide a rare book that they have been searching for is very gratifying. Selling books online can be a great work-from-home opportunity for bibliophiles!

Diet Pills

There is a new diet pill that comes out every day. If you’ve been struggling to lose weight and feel like you're fighting a “losing battle,” we want you to know that you’re not alone. We help people every day with weight loss diet pills and we understand what you are going through. One hundred and eighty four Million Americans are overweight, and seventy seven million of those are clinically obese. Both of these figures increase every year, and there’s no end in sight.

Your Body Mass Index (BMI) scientifically calculates the difference between your current weight and your ideal weight. Knowing your BMI is the first step to setting healthy weight loss goals and decreasing your risk of medical conditions, including diabetes and even heart disease.

Consumerdigest.com has studied one of our products, Relacore™, and talked about Cortisol. What is cortisol? Cortisol is naturally found in all of our bodies. Cortisol not only stimulates fat and carbohydrate metabolism for fast energy, it also stimulates insulin release and maintenance of blood sugar levels. The end result of these actions is an increase in appetite. Thus chronic stress, or poorly-managed stress, may lead to cortisol levels that stimulate your appetite, with the end result being weight gain or difficulty losing unwanted pounds.

The manufacturers of Relacore™ have promoted the fact that there is a link between cortisol and weight gain. While advertisements are never short on hype, many questions remain. Does Relacore™ contain an effective weight loss formula? How well does it work at reducing your stress? But really, does Relacore™ even work at all?

Relacore™ has been out for a while now; you may have seen a lot of commercial advertising for the product touting its ability to cut cortisol production, thereby leading to weight loss. Sounds a little too far-fetched to you? Not really. There have been countless medical studies performed that show that stress and elevated cortisol does lead to an increase in fat. Relacore™ is a product designed to help control this situation.

There are other fat burner diet pills as well, like Lipodrene-SR and Xenadrine-EFX. These weight loss diet pills have also been proven to help in the fight of winning the weight loss battle. Remember, weight loss diet pills can be a part of any weight loss plan, but always remember to consult a physician before using any new diet pill or attempting any exercise.

Benefits Of Wet Sauna For Women

The wet sauna is the oldest kind of sauna and is the one based on the traditional Finnish sauna. There are many benefits of wet sauna that one can expect to experience when using a sauna. The benefits of wet sauna are actually varied and can affect our physical health and mental health as well as the health of the internal organs. Women have some different needs then men. The benefits of wet sauna may differ slightly between a man and a woman.

Detoxification And Better Circulation
Both men and women experience detoxification as a common benefit of wet sauna. The kind of toxins in the body of a man and a woman may differ but the positive effect of detoxification is the same. When a person is exposed to a high degree of heat, an accelerated heart rate takes place causing detoxification. The heart beats faster thus making the delivery of the blood and oxygen to other parts of the body more efficient and thorough.

Menstrual Relief
Soothing women's inflamed joints as well as other parts of their body are additional benefits of wet sauna heat. The benefits of wet sauna are not as different between a man and a woman, but the menstrual experience is entirely different. A wet sauna visit can soothe those menstrual women that experience a bloated feeling due to water retention. Caution needs to be exercised when menstruating and in a wet sauna since this can elevate the heart rate pretty fast. Women with menstruation may also have an elevated heart rate compared to those who do not.

Improved Mental Health
Better mental health is one of the many benefits of wet sauna. The relief of letting go of sweat and other worries in a sauna can actually contribute to better mental health and less stress for some people. Having a relaxing time in a sauna can help you reap the benefits of wet sauna. The relaxed state that one can achieve with the combination of bearable heat and hazy steam can actually induce happy feelings which can last for some time.

Sauna medical benefits may be somewhat distorted due to the many different opinions that experts have regarding the wet sauna. It has been admitted though that there is nothing wrong with exposure to bearable heat to achieve the benefits of a wet sauna.

Low Salt Diet Tips for Kids and Adults

Our bodies only require a small amount of salt for proper nutrition. But the fact is that we all, including our children, consume way more salt -or rather, the sodium - than we should.

Why should we care how much salt (sodium) our children consume?

  1. Too much salt (sodium) creates risk for high blood pressure and higher risk for heart attack. And, we women know salt's affect on bloating!
  2. The eating habits of our children will continue in their adulthood - and all too frequently less healthy than they were reared when they face busy schedules they haven't expereinced before.

What is the recommended daily intake of salt (sodium)?

The adult recommended daily intake of sodium in the U.S. is less than 2,400 mg. But, you may be interested to note the the daily recommendation in the UK is less than 1,600 mg! That's quite a difference.

So, who do you trust?

It doesn't take much shopping and looking at the nutrition information on foods to find that they hold a LOT of sodium.

I personally think that the government's recommendation of sodium intake is influenced by prepared food production.

I think that they've taken into account how American's can reduce sodium intake without too much impact on the economy.

But, then again, depending on which association you check, you'll find different recommendations from them all.

There are no intake recommendations for children, but I think that they are important due to the formation of eating habits that I mentioned above.

So, what's a person to do?

Of course, a person should follow the advice of his/her doctor.

But, for me - a healthy adult with great blood pressure - I just use my common sense to guide me.

tips for easy, common sense salt reduction:

  1. Use less salt than recommended in a recipe. I've never found it to affect the taste. Most of the time I totally leave it out - especially if it's accompanied by a product that already contains salt/sodium.
  2. Don't let your kids salt at the table. The only time salt is on my dinner table is when company is over. I think that my two younger kids don't even realize that people salt their food at the table. If you do decide to let your kids have additional salt - put it on for them. It comes out faster than they realize and it's hard to see!
  3. Check the nutrition label of every food that you buy. You will quickly become aware of how much sodium is in cereal, bread, canned goods, bacon, frozen foods, etc. Having an awareness of how much sodium you are consuming will make reduction much easier
  4. Buy low-salt or low-sodium versions of a product. Why eat the extra sodium when you'll adjust to the difference in taste (if any) in a few bites?
  5. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.
  6. Substitute salt with other spices that will give food flavor without adding sodium

Forming good "salting" habits now, will make things a lot easier for your children in the future. Do it for them, and you'll be doing it for you too!

Drink Blueberry Iced Tea for the Taste and Health Benefits

Blueberry iced tea has become a popular choice among tea drinkers because of the zesty, thirst-quenching flavor and the natural medicinal properties that are present.

In fact, more scientific studies are indicating compelling health-related findings associated with consuming blueberries, in general. Therefore, the health and wellness benefits from drinking flavored tea on a regular basis are two-fold.

First, this flavored blend is brewed from black or green tea, which contain antioxidant properties that promote good health.

Second, by adding blueberries to the beverage, drinkers benefit from even more disease fighting attributes. There is growing evidence that blueberries are powerful disease fighters.

According to researchers at the USDA Human nutrition Center, blueberries rank #1 in antioxidant activity when compared to 40 other fresh fruits and vegetables. Antioxidants help neutralize harmful by-products of metabolism called "free radicals" that can lead to cancer and other age related diseases.

The blend can be easily made by adding dried blueberry leaves and/or dried or fresh berries to your tea and boiling water. Then, simply steep, strain and serve hot or over ice. You may want to add some sugar, honey or flavored syrup to suit your palette.

You can also purchase ready-made blueberry tea bags; though, they may not offer as many antioxidant properties as making your own brew.

A variety of other flavors can be added to your blueberry tea to create a special taste treat. Consider adding some cream for a richer-bodied drink. Or, create your own fruit tea recipe by adding pomegranate, cherry or blackberry to your brew.

Ginger - Powerful Antioxidant For Alzheimer's, Cancer and Heart Disease

Not only is ginger (Zingiber officinale) one of the most popular of all the spices but is also of the top five antioxidant foods (American Journal of Clinical nutrition, July 2006). Numerous studies investigating ginger's medicinal properties have also shown it to be effective in conditions such as motion sickness and the prevention and treatment of diseases such as Alzheimer's disease, cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, inflammatory diseases and stomach ulcers.

Research has shown ginger to have effects against the following conditions:

ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE

Two of ginger's most important antioxidants, curcumin and gingerol, have been shown to inhibit and even reverse the deposition in the brain of the amyloid plaques that are associated with Alzheimer's disease. Moreover, zingerone, another of ginger's antioxidants, neutralizes the powerful oxidant, peroxynitrite, which has also been implicated as an aggravating factor in Alzheimer's and other neurodegenerative diseases.

CANCER

Several phytochemicals found in ginger have demonstrated strong anticancer activities in both laboratory and clinical studies. While ginger's anti-tumorigenic effects have yet to be fully understood, they are thought to involve the following mechanisms:

ANTI-INFLAMMATORY: Cancer is often associated with inflammatory processes and ginger's potent anti-inflammatory activity reduces the risk of inflammation-induced malignancy. Ginger is an effective COX-2 inhibitor, curtailing the activity of potentially damaging COX-2 enzymes, the overproduction of which may cause harm to several tissue types.

CANCER CELL DEATH: The pungent vanilloids, gingerol and paradol found in ginger, are very effective in killing cancer cells. They achieve this both by direct cytotoxic activity against the tumour and indirectly by inducing apoptosis in the cancer cells. Reducing tumour initiation and growth: The phytochemical zerumbone antagonises the processes of both tumour initiation and promotion. It does this by inducing antioxidant enzymes and by weakening the pro-inflammatory signalling pathways associated with communication between cancer cells.

PREVENTS DNA DAMAGE: Melatonin is an antioxidant produced by the body that is also found in some plants, such as ginger. It has the valuable property of being able to access most parts of the body, including brain and nervous tissue, and protects DNA against carcinogenic free-radical damage.

ANTIBACTERIAL: Ginger can eliminate all strains of Helicobacter pylori, the bacteria that are the principal cause of stomach cancer.

CARDIOVASCULAR DISEASE AND CHOLESTEROL

Ginger has been shown to lower dangerously high cholesterol and triglyceride levels, while raising the levels of beneficial HDL. These lipid-modulating effects are partly due to the inhibition of fat absorption from the intestines. In addition, ginger's cardioprotective effects are enhanced by its ability to reduce platelet stickiness and in so doing further reduce the risk of heart attacks and thrombotic strokes.

ANIT-INFLAMMATORY PROPERTIES

Ginger's long-valued role as a treatment for arthritis and other inflammatory conditions has now been substantiated by a number of scientific studies that show how it is involved in several anti-inflammatory mechanisms. It is a strong inhibitor of COX-2 enzymes, pro-inflammatory cytokines and prostaglandins that are all important components of the inflammatory response. Abnormal tissue inflammation occurs when an excess of prostaglandins, cytokines and COX-2 enzymes are released by cells in joint tissue. The more of these molecules that are released, the more inflammatory cells and chemicals are attracted to the joints where they cause pain and damage to the joint surfaces. These substances are integral to inflammatory mechanisms that can involve many tissue types, as well as the condition known as chronic systemic inflammation.

ANTIMICROBIAL EFFECTS

The hydrochloric acid found in the stomach is a powerful defence against ingested pathogens and rapidly destroys almost all organisms that are taken in with food. Helicobacter pylori, however, is an unusually resilient bacterial species that thrives in the hostile, extremely acidic environment of the stomach. Once established, this bacteria causes a range of problems including indigestion, esophagitis, gastritis, stomach and duodenal ulcers, and stomach cancer. Ginger has traditionally been used as a treatment for stomach ailments, and it has recently been shown to kill all nineteen pathogenic Helicobacter pylori species. The regular ingestion of ginger should help to kill these dangerous bacteria before they become established, and thereby pre-empt the need for antibiotics which destroy many valuable intestinal bacteria, in addition to their intended targets.

DIABETES

Although there has been relatively little investigation into the antidiabetic properties of ginger, promising early studies show that it can increase insulin sensitivity. This suggests that, in all likelihood, it is a valuable prophylactic spice against this disease.

OBESITY

Ginger has a dual antiobesity effect. The phytochemicals gingerol and shogaol increase the metabolic rate and thus help to "burn off" excessive fat and also suppress the absorption of calorie-dense dietary fats from the intestines.

ANTIOXIDANT EFFECTS

Ginger is a source of a large number of important antioxidants that, amongst other activities, reduce lipid oxidation by enhancing the activities of crucial internally produced antioxidants, such as superoxide dismutase. Melatonin, in particular, is not only a highly effective free-radical scavenger itself, but also stimulates production of the main antioxidant enzyme of the brain, glutathione peroxidase.

Ginger's prominent role in traditional medical systems have been validated by contemporary research. As is the case with most spices, its preventive effects are enhanced when taken with other spices as there are synergistic effects between the medicinally active compounds that occur in this food group.

Health, Fitness And Potassium Supplements

Should someone supplement Potassium? Potassium can be a key component to maintaining a healthy nerve network, heart, kidney function, muscles and the digestive system. Much of the time certain diets naturally will provide the potassium levels most men and women need, there are select individuals who need more than what can be processed from eating like those without potassium issues. A potassium supplement is needed for those who have temporary or permanent ailments that rid their body of potassium, included, but not limited to: vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, diuretic use, kidney disease, and GI disease (gastrointestinal disease) and from having fluids depleted (heat stroke, sweat, dehydration, diarrhea, etc.), from vomiting (the twenty-four hour hour flu, self-induced bulimia, as a result of another condition), or because of having a disease, like kidney disease, etc. Potassium supplements (http://www.eatpotassiumrichfoods.com/potassiumsupplements.html) can be prescribed to restore or thwart potassium deficiency problems.

Is there a proper time to take potassium supplements? That depends on the type of supplement you are currently taking, as the quantity consumed and how often you take it varies greatly. That said, however, potassium supplements often are prescribed 2 to 4 times per day, and often with food. Your preferred pharmacist can help you if you should have any question or concern regarding your supplements.

How should someone best take potassium supplements? You should always read the label of your prescription bottles for specific to that supplement, instructions. Both tablets and capsules should be taken in original form; avoid breaking, if at all possible. Of course, that won't be possible for everybody. Some people who have trouble swallowing pills may have an added hurdle, that is alright. Do what you normally would do. If your potassium is in the form of a powder, liquid, granule, or fizzing tablet be certain to mix your potassium (http://www.eatpotassiumrichfoods.com/) in water, before you drink it. Using cold water can aid in covering up unfriendly flavors, or including your favorite fruit juice can help make your potassium much easier on your taste buds. Whatever form your potassium supplement (http://www.eatpotassiumrichfoods.com/potassiumsupplements.html) is in, taking them with a full glass of water or a combination with juice is what is most recommended.

Tips On How To Remove Linoleum

Wish you knew how to get rid of your existing linoleum? Like all things renovation wise, it can be a tough job, but it is still something that you are capable of doing. How difficult your particular linoleum will be to remove depends on its age and how it is fixated to your sub floor. If the linoleum is currently in good shape minus cracks, and soundly affixed to your sub floor, you may be able to leave it in place and add your new floor materials over it. Most people, however, prefer to remove the linoleum and start from scratch when installing new flooring.

The removal of your existing linoleum will involve some sweat equity on your part. Removal of your linoleum is a multi step process. Once you get the linoleum up you will have to deal with its adhesive material. Also, you may not even know what lies beneath the linoleum until you remove it. The underlying floors could be wood or concrete. Concrete being easier to work with as it is more durable.

The best tip when removing linoleum is to work in small sections. You can cut the linoleum in workable sized strips or squares as you go and then peel them off. Not only will you remove the majority of the surface layer of linoleum but it will assist you in getting to the adhesive as well. You can further attack the adhesive using a paint scraper or razor blade scraper. The razor blades ones will work much easier just keep in mind when working with hard adhesive or on concrete floors you will likely go through several blades.

Now that you have been able to remove the majority of the linoleum and its backing you can attack what remains. One way to do so is by applying a solvent or chemical remover. Make sure you follow instructions and read the warnings on the label of whatever product you use and wear skin and eye protection, such as gloves and glasses. One popular solvent is aptly named, Krud Kutter. Again, proceed by doing small sections at a time.

If you prefer not working with chemicals a low cost method of adhesive removal involves just boiling water. You can pour the boiling water directly on the remaining adhesive, in small sections, allow it to set a bit, and then proceed with scraping it.

If you are working with hardwood floors, that you are worried about damaging, you can try to remove the adhesive and remaining backing with a hair dryer or heat gun. Try a test area such as in the pantry. Simply use the hair dryer to heat up the adhesive and then scrape it. Make sure you are not scraping against the grain of the wood. As this method will result in hot and sticky debris make sure you have a heat resistant container ready for the clean up. If you choose to use a heat gun make sure you do not apply to much heat and burn the wood. As always, it is best to work in a small section, applying the heat in a moving motion versus static and scraping each area as you go.

Unlike when working with concrete your goal is to not remove 100% of the adhesive. Attempt to do so on hardwood floors and you will probably end up damaging the wood. Simply remove what you can without forcing the rest then clean the area by vacuuming or sweeping the debris. Depending on how much of the adhesive backing remains you can proceed by lightly sanding or removing the remaining portions with damp mopping using mineral spirits or a similar product to prepare the floor for its new refinish.

Tips For Keeping Pets

Animals unlike humans cannot express their feelings and they cannot go on making demands and tell their owners when they need food. They are animals. Pet keepers bring home fish, cats, dogs, rabbits, hamsters and birds home all the time eagerly but sadly, they fail to take proper care of their pets because of which their animals die. If pets can not speak out, pet keepers themselves should be humane enough to understand their pets heartily and give them their rights.

Some basic and simple tips for pet keepers can ensure a healthy and loving relation between themselves and their pets. As far as dogs are concerned it is advisable to keep it in a proper dog house which should be comfortable and cozy enough for it to reside in. Whenever you take out your dog for a walk make sure you leash it. They are playful animals, they love to jump and mingle with other animals and chase things. So avoid any bad circumstances it is always better to play it safe. Cats are well mannered and they are less messy than dogs. However they too need proper care. Dogs and cats should be bathed regularly and their utensils cleaned on daily bases. If your dog or cat ever urinate or excrete in your lounge, you should never leave it unclean. It is highly unhygienic for animals and pet keepers both.

The animals that you keep in cages need a little more attention. They are enslaved so it is better to make them at least feel free. Birds or rabbits should never be kept in small cages. They should be big enough so that your birds can easily flutter their wings and fly about. It should be big enough so that your rabbit can run about and hide when it wants to hide. Animals kept at home should provide them with a sense of being in their natural habitats. This way they feel free and they live happily. Their cages, their beddings should be cleansed thoroughly and regularly.

Animals should be vaccinated whenever they need to be. They should be taken for regular medical checkups so that they stay health and energetic. Animals too should be kept in a secured area and never be left out on their own. Pets are unlike the stray animals; they are vulnerable and require special attention. So pet keepers should make sure they take care of their pets the way they should be kept. They can always keep themselves updated through internet and magazines to acknowledge and fulfill their pet's needs.

Surprising Health Benefits for Pet Owners

Did you know that there are key health benefits that can result from owning a pet? Having one can enhance your physical, mental and social wellbeing.

1. How can a pet help your physical health?

Owning a dog, for instance, will encourage you to get more exercise. With your faithful friend at your side, you're much more likely to go for a walk. Walking is one of the best health activities you can do. While walking you're also more likely to socially interact with your neighbors because your special pal often acts as an ice-breaker.

Research led by Dr. Karen Allen at the State University of New York at Buffalo shows that pets can help lower blood pressure. Stockbrokers with high blood pressure were studied to see what happened when they adopted a pet dog or cat. Researchers concluded that having a pet nearby helps control increases in blood pressure due to stress.

In his studies Alan Beck, ScD (Professor of Animal Ecology, Purdue University) found that the simple act of petting your dog slows your heart rate and causes your blood pressure to drop.

An added health advantage from pet ownership is that patients may live longer after heart attacks. Some doctors recommend that a heart attack survivor adopt a dog because research has shown that a faithful canine companion can help prolong an owner's life.

2. How Can A Pet Improve Your Mental Health?

Sharing your life with a cat may help your mental health. A study conducted at Australia's University of New England found that people who own feline friends may experience fewer psychiatric disturbances than those without cats.

Pets can help their owners overcome depression through their companionship and unconditional love. They seem to possess the natural ability to help you relax and enjoy life more.

Pets can also help when you experience times of loneliness. English poet, Alexander Pope, has stated that histories are more full of examples of the fidelity of dogs than of friends. According to a Chinese proverb, dogs have so many friends because they wag their tails, not their tongues.

When you take care of a pet you have to develop a routine of getting out, buying food and providing exercise. This can help fight off depression and loneliness. The simple responsiblity of pet care can help you get your mind off yourself and your problems.

3. How can a pet enhance your wellbeing in the area of relationships?

American Animal Hospital Association President, Link Wellborn, believes that pets are more than just a member of the family - they're central to a healthy lifestyle.

Pets help lessen tension between family members and add a lot of fun and unconditional love to the homes where they live. When pets do cute and funny things - which they often do - family members react by laughing and being more relaxed.

If you don't have a pet yet, consider making one part of your family, but make sure you have the time and resources necessary to provide a stable loving home for your new friend.

If you choose a dog as your new pal, remember this wise old saying. "A dog is man's best friend." That's true in more ways than one. You'll get unconditional love, companionship, loyalty and relaxation in return for your investment of time and material resources.

What a bargain!

How to Cure Type 2 Diabetes - A Simple Plan of Exercise and Dieting

How to cure type 2 diabetes is a question on about 1 in 3 Americans' minds. Can you believe that so many people are diabetic or pre-diabetic?

Yet, the American Diabetic Association (ADA) still states that there is no cure for diabetes. And even yet, thousands of people will cure diabetes this year. Who is telling the truth? In this article, you will learn the basics of how to cure type 2 diabetes with exercise and dieting.

Why Curing Diabetes Works

Have you seen the popular show, The Biggest Loser? Recently, one of the overweight contestants lost pounds of fat and changed her life. I was impressed to hear how she naturally cured her high blood pressure and cured her diabetes in a matter of 10 weeks.

How did she do it? Exercise and dieting.

And research study after research study shows that the best way to become healthier and cure common diseases like gout, high blood pressure, and diabetes is good old fashion exercise and dieting. Here are some tips to help you make your diet simpler, your exercise program simpler and cure type 2 diabetes.

Cure Type 2 Diabetes Naturally

Simpler is better. These tips may be considered simple but they will reverse diabetes in a matter of weeks. Just try them!

1. Drinking water should be an important habit throughout the day. Water can help you lose weight and also keep your body flushed. It also makes healthier cells which will eventually accept insulin. You should drink at least 2 cups of water for every 2 hours you are awake. Do the math and make a goal today.

2. Avoid sugar and avoiding carbohydrates is extremely important to start your diet. Sugar is obviously a no-no for diabetics. Carbohydrates and starches are also important to avoid because they are converted to glucose once it mixes with saliva. In other words, carbohydrates are like eating tablespoons of sugar.

Once you reverse or cure diabetes, you will be able to reintroduce carbohydrates to your body through whole grains.

You should avoid breads, pastas, cereals, crackers, potatoes and chips for a few weeks while your blood sugar normalizes.

3. Exercising is also important for making new cells that accept insulin and normalizing blood sugar. Try to exercise once a day for at least 30 minutes (you can go longer). Exercising has been shown to help in the cure of diabetes.

Exercise is beneficial because it will reduce insulin resistance, ward off diabetes complications, help you lose weight, make you feel and look better and help you maintain a steady blood sugar level for life.

If you live an inactive lifestyle, start by exercising only a little each day. Gradually work your way up to exercising more which will reduce the chance of burning out. And find something you enjoy like biking, hiking or swimming.

Cure Diabetes in 4 Weeks

Your body creates about 60,000 new cells by the time it takes you to read one sentence. Imagine if your body was healthy enough to create cells that accept insulin and start reversing diabetes. Imagine curing diabetes in 4 weeks with a 100% guaranteed, step by step plan.

Potassium and Its Benefits to the Human Body

Potassium is a mineral that serves a variety of purposes within the body. Despite its importance to so many of the body's functions and systems, most people do not consume the standard recommended daily levels of this essential mineral. This is unfortunate as long-term deficiency can contribute to and even directly cause a variety of health problems and complications not only to the body but to one's lifestyle as well.

Helping to regulate the body's fluid levels is one of the mineral potassium's greatest functions. Not only that but it also has a great part in regulating the blood pressure. It also helps to keep the heart thumping steadily and regularly and is also essential to the nervous system. Potassium works to promote the proper functioning of the tissue that makes up the nervous system. It also serves to enhance muscle control plus the growth and health of cells particularly through its importance in waste product removal. This mineral is also vital to the kidneys in their waste removal tasks. Potassium also plays an important role to mental function as well as to physical processes. It helps to promote efficient cognitive functioning by playing a significant role in getting oxygen to the brain.

Failing to meet the standard recommended daily intake levels can lead to a variety of negative consequences for both physical well being and mental health. Physical symptoms can include muscular cramps and twitching, muscular weakness, even actual muscle damage, poor reflexes, fatigue, fragile bones, irregular heartbeat and other cardiovascular irregularities, kidney failure, lung failure, and cardiac arrest. Mental symptoms can include nervous disorders of various types, anorexia, insomnia, a slowdown of cognitive processes, and depression.

There are certain health situations that can make a person more susceptible to suffering from a deficiency of potassium. These include alcoholism, health conditions requiring the use of certain types of diuretics, periods of high stress and illnesses or conditions that result in extended periods of diarrhea and vomiting. Some situations of our own making can contribute to potassium deficiency. These include excessive caffeine intake and a diet made up of mostly processed foods. Consuming excessive amount of salt daily can also attribute to the decrease of potassium in the human body.

Our bodies are complex systems in which there is a delicate chemical balance that keeps everything functioning as it should. Disruptions to the system are going to have consequences with some being more severe than others. Some of these consequences can take the form of disease or irreversible damage. Prevention is always better than trying to cure illness or repair damage. One of the most important parts of prevention is good nutrition. Making sure that you regularly consume the standard recommended daily intake levels of the vitamins, mineral and other nutrients your body needs is the first vital step in keeping a healthy physic and mind.

But because of today's lifestyle and diet, it is very hard therefore to intake the proper daily amount of potassium necessary for a normal life. For this concern, nutritional supplements are the solution. They offer an efficient and reliable means of meeting not only our daily potassium needs but also other daily dietary requirements need by the system. Because the balance of nutrients is so important to achieving the optimum standards of performance and health, you may want to consider setting up a consultation with either a licensed nutritionist or your health care provider to create a personalized supplement plan; one that will be best suited to your individual dietary need and health goals.

Endometriosis - Diet And Nutrition Can Reduce Symptoms

Diet changes can help reduce the symptoms of endometriosis

Changing your diet to deal with Endometriosis is an excellent foundation to assist you in reducing the symptoms, and will help regenerate your health.

Adjusting what you eat can bring about many positive physical and metabolic changes, as well as improving our health. Many of you may be aware that various illnesses and diseases have responded very positively to changes in diet, and Endometriosis is no exception.

Some of the positive physical changes that take place when we change our diet, will at first not seem reliant on our food intake, but they are. For example, eating the right kinds of foods can:

~ sharpen our mental alertness
~ help us to stop feeling so sluggish
~ give us more energy
~ regulate sleep patterns
~ regulate bowel movements
~ balance blood sugar levels
~ regulate metabolism
~ regulate body weight
~ control hyperactivity - especially in children

We are very much a reflection of what we eat. When someone has a diet loaded in fats, the first place it will show up is in their complexion, with greasy, sallow skin. When we are constipated, an Iridologist (alternative health practitioner specializing in diagnosis using the iris of the eye) will immediately see this in the lack-lustre appearance of the eyes. With a lack of vital nutrients in our system, the body will eventually give you tell-tale signs.

The diet in modern day western society has become depleted of vital nutrients for many reasons. Intensive farming has robbed the soil of vital trace elements which used to be taken up by the crops as they grew, and in turn we consumed them. We rely so much on convenience foods now, which are very low in goodness. Much of our ‘fresh’ produce like fruit and vegetables is actually gassed and then stored in warehouses for months.

Many of us eat ‘fast food’, which is not very nutritious - the longer that food is left standing in a heated serving cabinet, the less nutritious value it has. People get lazy; they cannot be bothered to shop for valuable ingredients, yet alone cook good wholesome food anymore.

Scientists, health researchers and others have now found that the lower your food intake, with fewer calories and proteins, the longer you will live. We simply do not need the food intake that we have in the West.

What the body needs is a simple, balanced, preferably organic diet, which is prepared using fresh ingredients, and is viewed as our means of sustenance rather than being viewed as ‘something to stop us being hungry’. We do have many problems and issues surrounding food in the West, with anorexia, comfort eating, and many other eating disorders. Food is also used in many social situations, but this is no excuse for not being able to feed yourself with good food when you are at home.

Food is our fuel, it makes us function, grow, replace worn out cells, gives us energy, and feeds the entire body. Food is the secondary requirement to life, with oxygen being the first basic requirement. More important than food is our daily requirement for water. We need lots of it; plain, fresh water. Yet most people only drink a small proportion of what the body really needs.

But going back to food; it provides us with energy. The foods we take in include:

~ Carbohydrates, which provide the chief source of energy for bodily functions and muscular exertions
~ Fats which are the most concentrated form of energy. Three fatty acids are essential in the diet because the body cannot make them itself.
~ Proteins, which are the building blocks in food, the construction materials for growth and repair of cells
~ Fibre, indigestible parts of plants which provide roughage and aids digestion
~ Vitamins and minerals - the organic substances which the body cannot make, but which it requires in small amounts to maintain health

Controlled Diet for Endometriosis

Controlling your diet to help you deal with Endometriosis is an excellent starting point. As I have said earlier, we really are a reflection of what we eat, and the body responds very quickly to what is put inside it. Let me emphasize that point thus:

~ Look how radically altered we become by too much alcohol - which can happen very quickly
~ A Sumo wrestler is not born large - they eat themselves large
~ Body builders do build up their bodies with power/weight lifting, but they also use a high protein diet to back it up
~ Drink too much coffee and you have a caffeine rush
~ Travel to another area and you may get upset by the change in water consumption
~ When we are hungry, many of us suffer that awful drowsy blood sugar drop; eat something and we can pick up again very quickly

So the body is very sensitive to what is put in it, and sometimes that sensitivity is quick to show up. Unfortunately other sensitivities are not noticed and will creep up on us, which is when we suffer from dietary deficiencies and a lack of trace elements. There are times when our body gives us clues that we have a deficiency and we start to have cravings for certain types of foods.

The role of a controlled diet in Endometriosis management has proved exceedingly beneficial for many women. Some women have even been able to be totally symptom free with changes in diet. The plan of the endo diet is to relieve or prevent some of the disabling symptoms that occur with menstruation, as well as the general pain of endo. The goal is to decrease estrogen levels, stabilize hormones, increase energy, alleviate painful cramps and stabilize emotions.

SO WHERE DO WE START!

Let’s start with pain and hormones in relation to diet Â…Â…Â…Â…

Endometriosis is an estrogen-sensitive condition, but the painful menstrual cramping that occurs is predominantly due to prostaglandin synthesis in the body. Prostaglandins are naturally occurring fatty acids, which are derived from dietary sources. The body can produce different types of prostaglandins through a complex series of pathways.

There are the ‘good guys’ and the ‘bad guys’ of the prostaglandin group. The goal of a controlled diet is to block the ‘bad guys’ for their negative actions on the body, and increase the ‘good guys’ for their opposite and beneficial actions. The action of the bad guys is to increase uterine contractions, and the good guys have a soothing effect. By changing the types of oils that are taken into the diet, the production of the good guys can be stimulated, which helps with uterine relaxation. These oils are composed of omega-3 fatty acids, which lead to positive prostaglandin production. Excellent sources of the omega-3 fatty acid producing oils are:

~ Evening primrose
~ Safflower oil
~ Walnut oil
~ Flax seeds/oil

It is also important to decrease intake of those fatty acids that will stimulate the bad guys which are found in saturated fats, butter, animal and organ meat, lard.

In addition to decreasing bad fat intake, the diet should also consist of high fiber. Not only does this help with good digestion, but it is also thought that a diet high in fiber can decrease total circulating estrogens. It is recommended to incorporate 25 grams per day of fibre. Good sources are:

~ whole grains excluding wheat and rye
~ beans, peas and pulses
~ brown rice
~ vegetable and fruits
~ oatmeal

The following foods are recommended to modulate estrogen levels by incorporating one or two servings a day:

~ mustard greens
~ broccoli
~ cabbage
~ turnips

FOODS TO AVOID

~ wheat - this includes breads, cakes and pasta products, all based on wheat
~ refined and concentrated carbohydrates
~ sugar, in whatever form, including honey
~ alcohol
~ caffeine which is found in tea, coffee, soft drinks
~ chocolate
~ dairy produce including all milk, eggs and cheese
~ fried food, margarine and hydrogenated fats
~ soy products and soy protein - tamari can be used in small amounts
~ tinned and frozen packaged foods as little as possible
~ additives and preservatives

Note: Meat, dairy and eggs promote the pro-inflammatory prostaglandins.

FOODS BENEFICIAL FOR THE IMMUNE SYSTEM

~ beans, peas, lentils

HORMONE REBALANCING

Foods containing natural plant sterols can be helpful. They are thought to block the estrogen receptors, so in turn excess estrogen in the body cannot ‘lock-in’ to these receptors. These include:

~ peas, beans and pulses
~ red and purple berries
~ garlic
~ apples
~ parsley
~ fennel
~ brassicas: cabbage, cauliflower etc
~ nuts and seeds
~ celery, carrots
~ rhubarb
~ sage

VITAMIN AND MINERAL SUPPLEMENTS

Although the best source of vitamins and minerals is through a well balanced diet, many foods today are depleted in these vital trace elements. Today, most of us need to supplement our diet with some of the vitamins and minerals that our bodies need to function optimally.

The following is a list of supplements that will help women with Endometriosis:

Magnesium - is a mineral and is believed to ease cramping with menstruation

Zinc - is essential for enzyme activity, helping cells to reproduce which will help with healing. Zinc is also reported to boost the immune system and helping to create an emotional sense of well-being

Calcium - levels of calcium in menstruating women decrease 10 to 14 days before the onset of menstruation. Deficiency may lead to muscle cramps, headache or pelvic pain.

Iron - women with Endometriosis tend to have very heavy periods which can lead to an iron deficiency. This can lead to anemia which is characterized by extreme fatigue and weakness.

B vitamins - these are important for the breakdown of proteins, carbohydrates and fats in the body. B vitamins are reported to improve the emotional symptoms of Endometriosis, and have proved helpful in dealing with PMT

Vitamin C - is well known for helping to boost the immune system and help provide resistance to disease. It is also used in the body to build and maintain collagen within the body.

Vitamin A - is another immune system booster

Vitamin E - plays an important role by increasing oxygen carrying capacities and also strengthens the immune system

Selenium - when taken together with vitamin E has been reported to decrease inflammation associated with Endometriosis, as well as immune system booster.

OTHER USEFUL SNIPPETS:

Certain vegetables have substances that activate liver enzymes and help the liver to detoxify chemicals. This allows the liver to eliminate excess estrogen from the body more effectively. These vegetables include: broccoli, cauliflower and brussel sprouts.

Auto immune diseases are thought to be triggered by free-radicals in the body, which could be an added factor in Endometriosis. Free radicals are destructive molecules and are found naturally in the body but can be made worse by pollution, stress, illness and smoking. There are minerals and vitamins that will help to fight off these free-radicals because of their antioxidant properties, including: vitamins A,C,E, CoQ10, selenium, vitamin B complex, as well as specific supplements being sold specifically as Antioxidants.

TO SUM UP

~ increase omega-3 fatty acids
~ avoid meat, dairy products, wheat and sugar
~ increase fiber
~ modulate estrogen intake
~ avoid caffeine and alcohol
~ avoid refined foods, e-numbers, additives
~ minimize or avoid soy products as they contain high levels of phytoestrogens, and soy contains a particular toxin which seems to be particularly detrimental for women with Endometriosis
~ peel fruit and vegetables to remove toxic chemicals
~ eat organic produce wherever possible
~ drink lots of filtered or mineral water

The Advantages Of Bottle Feeding

All new mothers are advised to breastfeed. We're told that breast milk is best and that there are so many benefits to breastfeeding. So, is bottle feeding second best? Are there no advantages to bottle feeding your baby?

Many mothers today are made to feel guilty about bottle feeding their baby. The medical profession, the media, family, strangers in the street, all eulogize the benefits of breastfeeding. We're told; it's natural; it has just the right nutrients for your baby; it promotes better bonding between mother and child; it's environmentally friendly! All of these things are true to an extent but the plain fact is, many mothers do not breastfeed their child and many are made to feel like a pariah if they opt for the bottle. Promoting breastfeeding as being best is fine, but disparaging mothers who bottle feed is not.

If you are a mother who has chosen not to breastfeed, and who can't breastfeed, you must never, ever feel guilty about doing so. Today's baby milk formula is the closest it has ever been to breast milk. It also comes fortified with many nutrients that are low or absent in many mother's breast milk. Formula milk is fortified with iron and vitamin D. Fact: Iron-fortified infant formulas have actually been credited for the declining incidence of anemia in infants. For this reason, the American Academy of Pediatrics highly recommends that mothers who are not breastfeeding use an iron-fortified infant formula. So, as far as nutrition goes, a mother need have no worries about giving her baby milk formula.

Being a mother is very tiring. Infant formula milk is not as easily digested as mother's milk. Consequently, the baby feels satiated for longer periods and this extends the time between feedings at an earlier stage. So a mother who bottle feeds can get more rest between feeds than a mother who breastfeeds.

One major cause of concern for breastfeeding mothers is knowing whether or not her baby is getting enough milk. Not so with infant formula. A mother who bottle feeds her baby knows exactly how much she has fed her child and can rest easy knowing her child has received its recommended daily allowance.

A mother who bottle feeds her child can return to a more normal life than a mother who breastfeeds. A mother who bottle feeds can wear the clothes she wants; a nursing mother has to wear clothes to accommodate her hungry baby. A mother who bottle feeds can eat the diet she chooses and not have to worry about drinking alcohol; a breastfeeding mother's diet is a much duller affair.

Bottle feeding mothers can take medication when the need to; a breastfeeding mother has to be very careful about any medication she takes as this will be passed on to baby through her breast milk, in fact some medication may even stop her milk production.
Lovemaking is sometimes not easy for the breastfeeding woman because the hormonal changes associated with lactation leaves her vagina dry. In addition, breastfeeding can lead to sore nipples and leaky breasts, which are not conducive to lovemaking. A bottle feeding mother should not have these problems. She also has the added benefit of being able to choose the contraception of her choice. A breastfeeding mother cannot take the oral pill as its hormones will be passed on to baby through her breast milk.
A mother who bottle feeds her child can begin to diet six weeks after delivery. A breastfeeding mother on the other hand, has to be careful about her diet.

Bottle feeding in public tends to be far less embarrassing for a mother than does breastfeeding. A consequence is that many mothers who choose to bottle feed generally venture outdoors much more than those who breastfeeding; society has not made public breastfeeding easy for mothers.

So, next time you may feel as though you're letting yourself and baby down, remember that they are many advantages to giving your baby infant formula, for both mother and child.

1. Fried Foods That Are Frightening

Deep fried foods are nutritionally bad for you. If you enjoy going to fairs and carnivals, you may well be tempted to eat the strangest of concoctions. It's amazing just what has been thrown into the deep fryer in the name of creativity.

But the only thing you are going to create is havoc with your weight loss diet.

2. Steakhouse Stories That Scare

Your local neighbourhood restaurant or steakhouse may be a nutritional Nightmare.

Fried onions that are considered a Starter Dish are so full of Calories, Fat, Saturated Fat and with a high Salt content. And to go from bad to worse, the onions are usually served with a sauce that has even more Calories, Fat and Salt.

For the sake of your health, be sure you know your onions.

3. Manufacturers Mislead Many

Foods that are often labelled as healthy are just the opposite. Marion Nestle PhD, MPH a New York University Nutritional Professor in her book ‘What To Eat,' talks of ‘Fruit Snacks' that have absolutely no fruit in them but were just laden with sugar.

Don't believe the adverts, read the labels carefully then decide for yourself if it's right for you.

4. Burgers That Are Bigger and Biggest

Burgers are getting bigger and bigger. Burger King and others are taking a bun and piling on as many as four burgers, plus slices of cheese and strips of bacon. Just one of these burgers will give you more Calories than you should eat if having three meals a day.

If you really do want a burger, try ordering a plain burger. It could be served with a sauce, but it should be on the side not on top.

That will save you eating more Calories than you need.

5. Awful Appetisers

How about a Fundido as a snack before the main meal?

A Fundido is made up of a combination of cheese, pepperoni, bacon and sausage served with bread sticks.

If you are on a weight loss diet, a Fundido is a nutritional no-no.

6. Cakes and Cookies That Are Calorie Clogged

You are tempted to have a square of Starbucks Old Fashioned Crumb Cake to go with your coffee but that little square has 670 Calories in it.

And a piece of Cheesecake has enough Calories in it to make a mess of your weight loss diet, but the Cheesecake Factory adds Chocolate Candy, Mousse etc.

Nice for a treat once a year, but for the rest of the year Â… DON'T.

7. Diet Drinks That Deceive

High Calorie drinks are so deceptive. They don't need chewing and go down real easy and they don't fill you up. So how can this innocent looking cup of coffee be loaded with 490 – 580 Calories? It could be the chocolate or cream that is added.

To avoid piling on the Calories, order a small size cup of coffee with low fat milk and sweeteners.

8. High Calorie Horrors

When you are out shopping at the Mall you may be tempted by the delicious aromas of coffees, spicy pies and the mouth watering smell of freshly made doughnuts.

But giving in to temptation could mean you may consume a day's worth of Calories in one delicious but none essential piece of confectionery.

Ok I'm being a spoil sport but, for the sake of your health and weight loss diet, you would be better to take along a snack of crackers and nuts or raw veggies. Enjoy.

9. Diet Disasters When Dining Out

Two decades ago, dining out was already beginning to be a disaster for the person who was on a weight loss diet. The menu offered high Calorie foods.

Things haven't improved over the years; in fact they have become worse. On the menu in restaurants are such things as fried macaroni and cheese and cheese fries. Just oozing with fat and packed with Calories.

In order to keep to your diet change into a fluffy bunny rabbit and talk yourself into eating and enjoying salads.

10. Super Sized Servings That Sabotage Your Diet

Have you noticed how it's not just fast food meals that have got bigger? So have bagels, pasta servings, salads and sandwiches. If you go out to a restaurant for a meal, most of the meals on the menu are going to be around 1 000 Calories.

The question to ask yourself is, do I really need this food? As Michelle May MD, author of ‘Am I Hungry?' and ‘What To Do When Diets Don't Work' said, that ‘Once a person indulges in a decadent dessert or monster burger, it triggers the ‘I've already blown my diet, so why bother,' mentality.

Beyond that, May believes, the real horror may be the American mind set about food. We were raised to clean the plate, so we could be rewarded with a dessert, which further enhances our desire to eat sweets and meals without recognition of fullness,' she says.

If you want to keep to your weight loss diet, learn what foods are best for you and avoid the ones that sabotage it.
