Homeopathic Remedies as First Aid

A homeopathic remedy kit is the ideal first aid kit to have for a wide range of problems that arise from everyday living while at home or traveling. Having multiple homeopathics close at hand makes dealing with minor injuries like the small bruises when a young child falls or bumps into something to the more seasonal issues of colds, allergies and flu much easier to deal with.

Typically when deciding on homeopathic remedies there are many different types of symptoms to look at. When using homeopathics as first aid, it is much easier to decide which remedy to take. Homeopathic reference books like Homeopathic Medicine at home by Maesimund Panos, M.D., or The Family Guide to Homeopathy by Andrew Lockie M.D. are great reference books to have at home. Either of these books makes learning about individual homeopathics and how to use them easy for the person new to homeopathy as well as a great homeopathic reference book for the person who is more experienced with choosing the correct remedy.

When purchasing a home homeopathic kit, it is important to look for one that meets your needs. If you are going to be using it at home with young children you want to have remedies that are appropriate for childhood situations. For young children the Hylands Kid's Kit is the perfect choice with six commonly used homeopathics: Arnica for swelling, bruises, and shock; Aconitum Napellus for inflammation and fevers; Belladonna for sore throats, coughs and fevers; Chamomilla for pain, colic and teething; Ferrum Phos for stuffy nose and congestion; Hepar Sulphuris for head colds, sore throats and laryingitis with the addition of Bumps 'n Bruises Ointment for topical applications.

If you want to have a good assortment of homeopathics for use at home, are planning on taking a family vacation, or flying around the world, a great choice is the Washington 100 homeopathic remedy kit. In addition to the 100 most popular homeopathic remedies, this homeopathic remedy kit comes with a small booklet with the remedies and what they are used for and a symptom list to help determine the best homeopathic remedy for the situation.

Whatever kit you choose, having a homeopathic remedy kit close at hand can make the difference between having a miserable crying child or having a good night's sleep, feeling terrible on your vacation or enjoying your trip. Be prepared and purchase your homeopathic remedy kit and homeopathic reference book today.

5 Tips On How To Build Self Confidence Today

There are very few people who could call themselves perfect and be right. Most of us need to build self confidence today, but the majority just either ignore the issues or concentrate on the negatives: stress, worry, jobs, money problems and relationship issues. Concentrating on these areas drains our self confidence rather than improving it.

If you could improve your self confidence you could make more money, look and feel better physically, or just be more relaxed with other people. Below there are five simple techniques that have been proved to help build self confidence today.

1. Talk to yourself. It sounds crazy but it works. All of us have a running monologue constantly in our heads, whether we realize it or not. Everything we see, hear, or touch sparks off an immediate dialog in our thoughts.

For those who lack confidence this monologue is filled with negative messages many of which are the negative side of adverts from television, radio, advertisement boardings, newspapers, and just overhearing other people talk.

These negative thoughts literally suck energy from our minds and bodies and block the flow of positive messages. We need to hear the positive messages as they will build self confidence today and raise our self esteem. Take control. Use your inner thoughts to talk to yourself in a positive manner, as often as you can.

As an example one of my regular sayings is "I like myself, I like myself, I like myself". I just repeat it for a couple of minutes. It sounds cheesy, but does build self confidence today – Try it. I bet that if you go to the mirror right now and repeat out loud "I like myself!" 50 times, it will be impossible to keep from smiling.

2. Dress as smartly and as classily as you can. You wont feel at your best if you don't look your best. You will be amazed at just how much more confidence you will have just looking your best. It just feels good when you are wearing your best clothes, are well groomed, and are surrounded by a clean environment. So what if it is Saturday, you need to build self confidence today not next week. Put on your nice clothes, get the car washed, style that hair! A hairdresser once told me "Everyday is show time!"

3. Increase your self esteem even more by giving thanks to what you are, how you look, and what you are doing. Say "thank you" to yourself to everything you see, all whom you meet, and each smile that you receive.

4. Stand or sit correctly: How you stand sends out a message to the World, and in turn, back to you. This results in improving how you feel about yourself and will build self confidence today and every day.

There is scientific evidence that shows how posture affects our mood. Do not slouch. Slouching produces a down mood. By slouching you are telling the world and yourself it doesn't matter, you don't matter. Standing tall and upright will actually lift your mood. Help build up your confidence by pulling back those shoulders, stop that slouch, and walk proud.

5. Smile. Just smile and things seem better somehow. Practice smiling regularly and get your facial muscles used to the physical act of smiling.

Go to the mirror and smile – make yourself. Not a grimace, but a proper smile. If you don't think you can try this:

1) Open your eyes as wide as you can – (try and get your eyebrows right up to you hair line)

2) Slightly open your mouth

3) Pull the corners of your mouth back towards your ears (If your not sure pull them back with your fingers so you know what it feels like then try again without your fingers).

4) Repeat 50 times. Get your facial muscles used to smiling and you will smile more and encourage smiles from others. This will make you feel happier and with that you'll build self confidence today.

Diet Programs And Meals - The Harmony Health Diet

The Harmony health Diet was invented by a group of seasoned nutritionists who placed the accent on health rather than body weight. They apply four rules: healthy nutrition, regular physical activity, relaxation, and self-esteem. This weight loss program is meant to last a lifetime. The proposed weight loss is in the range of half a pound to a pound (.2 kilograms to .6 kilograms) per week. Here are some of the program principles.

Lose weight gradually, according to your needs. Don't center this diet around your bathroom scale. Respect your body and listen to its hunger and fullness signals. Don't count calories except to insure a minimum of 1200 per day. There are no forbidden foods. Keep a daily log of everything that you eat. Eat a maximum of 20% prepared foods. Get support from a nutritionist. Eat whatever you like but don't exaggerate. Manage your stress through mediation, yoga, and other methods. Eat about three meals and two or three snacks a day. Drink eight glasses or more of water a day. Eat whole grains and foods containing omega-3. Make mealtime pleasurable. For some meals eat Harmony Health plates which consist of 50% vegetables, 25% bread, and 25% meat or meat substitutes. Eat organic, local products whenever possible. Practice a sport during 30 to 60 minutes a day.

This diet has the advantage that you will learn to know yourself better. You'll learn that it's possible to be healthy no matter what your weight. A major disadvantage is the cost of nutritionists or other specialists. Some insurance companies are starting to reimburse these fees.

Here are two sample menus:

Menu 1

Breakfast: A bowl of whole grain cereal. A glass of goat's milk. A peach.

The mid-morning snack is an orange, a handful of mixed nuts, and a glass of water.

Lunch: A bowl of vegetable soup. 100 grams (3.5 ounces) of grilled chicken breast. A quarter plate of pasta. Grean beans. 175 milliliters (6 ounces) of yogurt.

Supper: Vegetarian chili. A third cup of brown rice. A kiwi. A yogurt.

Menu 2

Breakfast: A bowl of oatmeal. A plain yogurt. An orange.

The mid-morning snack is a banana, a handful of mixed nuts, and a glass of water.

Lunch: Green salad. A quarter plate of red beans. A quarter plate of brown rice. Zucchini. 175 milliliters (6 ounces) of yogurt.

Supper: 120 grams of salmon. Ratatouille. A third cup of whole grain pasta. 125 milliliters of raspberries. A yogurt.

Some information in this article comes from a fascinating new book, La Bible des Regimes, written by Jenny de Jonquieres and published by Amerik Media. Her book describes more than 80 diets and weight reduction programs. Each diet is presented with 5 menu plans, a detailed discussion of its advantages and disadvantages, and lots more. La Bible des Regimes is presently available only in French.

How To Catch Him and Keep Him Dating Advice For Women

Hey ladies – ever been dumped, had your heart broken or other wise been tramped upon by a man? Of course you have – we all have. And we are ALL looking for something just a little bit better (ok, maybe a WHOLE LOT better!) than what we just left. But how can we keep history from repeating itself? How can we start meeting quality men, and then after meeting them, hook them and reel them in for the trophy shot? Well, I have some tips to share with you on that, so put your ears on….

Tired of the Bars and Clubs scene to meet the guys? Me too. So let’s expand our view for a moment and think outside the box. Here are some great places to meet guys that do not include loud obnoxious drunks, broken ear drums, and the typical pawing Charlie.

1. Co-Ed sports leagues and fitness clubs! Guys love sports, we know that, and they will totally dig a chick that loves sports too. Or better yet – how about a part time JOB at the local club?

2. Shoot pool! (Ok, this may include the obnoxious drunk, so be prepared)

3. Laundromats! Do your laundry on a Friday night or Saturday, it’s a great ice-breaker, and remember, no granny- panties!

4. Go back to school! Check out the classes that the GUYS usually take like engineering, auto mechanics, etc. If you don’t want to join, volunteer to be a class aid.

5. Get a dog and start walking in the park – and bring a Frisbee!

6. Go online! There are all kinds of places you can get a free profile (check out http://www.wheretogetthescoop.com for 10 online dating sites that offer free profiles)

7. Crash a wedding

8. Go to graduations at the local college

9. Attend sporting events and football parties at BW3s or your local sports club (goes along w/#1)

10. Home Depot or your local Lowes – troll the isles, pretend to need help, or attend a free class on how to tile your bathroom floor!

Ok – so you have met him (finally, right?). Now what? Here is where most of us seem to need the help. One of the most important things a woman can do in a relationship to end it right then and there is to “lose her cool”. And I am not talking about just flipping out and telling him what a worthless turd he is for forgetting your anniversary. I mean the “needy Nancy” and the “paranoid Patty” and the “Longing Lucy” or “Clingy Caroline”. Let’s go over just a couple tips.

Guys want someone who is cucumber cool when they want cool, and tamale hot when they want it hot. The trick is knowing which one they want at which time, right? Exactly. One of the keys to this is following his cues and his body language, and making sure that he understands what you are wanting, looking for and needing, and that YOU understand the same from him. Never – ever – assume that just because you think you have a relationship, that you do. Let’s face it ladies, guys are clueless and we need to accept this. Follow his cues and understand his needs, and give him the space he needs when he needs it. But make sure that YOU get space too, even if you don’t think you need it! 

Next – (you’ll like this one) do NOT give him everything he wants!! Don’t be a pushover! And by this I do not mean to try to run the relationship like a Nazi. I just mean to – be unavailable sometimes, hold that proverbial “carrot” out there over his head just a little out of reach. If you start out giving him everything he wants, you will have to either a) keep it up or b) end it at some point and he will wonder where his wonderful little slave went. Don’t start it!

Ok, that being said, there is a lot more advice out there for women that is geared specifically toward women. Women need dating advice! There is a guy out there named Christian Carter who has developed and entire program based specifically on dating advice for women, as well as relationship advice once you are in it. Christian Carter offers free newsletters, too, so you do not have to pay for some killer dating advice. Go here to check it out : http://www.YouCanGetTheGuy.com.

Still Life Photo Tips - How to Take Great Pictures

Still life photography has many uses. Perhaps you want to take a photograph of a beautiful bowl of fruit or perhaps you have learned that an important key to eBay success is uploading quality photos of your products. Other reasons for learning still life photography may include selling still life photograph downloads at microstock sites or to food magazines. No matter what your reason, still life photography is a great skill to learn.

The subject for still life pictures are endless unless you have to take a specific product for a photo shoot. Fine art still lifes aren't limited to just apples and grapes. Even something like artfully arranged spools of thread can be interesting and visually appealing. Microstock sites like Shutterstock and iStock that cater to commercial users have a high demand for all sorts of still life, often of very simple objects, like a cup of coffee or a key.

In one way, still life photography is a lot easier than other forms of photography like landscape, sports or pet photography. With still life pictures, you can arrange the objects exactly how you want them and have full control over the photo's composition.

Often times, high quality still life photos can be challenging to capture. Because still lifes are taken up close, it's easy to see imperfections on your subject that you would normally never see.

Despite its challenge, using basic photography skills and the following tips, you can create quality still life pictures.

Lighting for Still Life Photography

With most professional photographers, they use a light box or soft box to take their still life photos. However this isn't absolutely necessary as you will see in a moment, but it can be a big help. However, if you do want one, you can find a soft box online or you can easily make one using instructions you find online. The purpose of these lighting tools is to provide even light on the subject.

Another way to get good lighting is to shoot outside using natural light. In fact, a high overcast (bright overcast) sky creates a soft box effect where you get good lighting without the harsh shadows.

Composing Still Life Pictures

Arrange your objects in a pleasing composition. You should consider using classical composition techniques like "leading lines," "frame within a frame" or the "rule of thirds" to ensure your picture is well composed. Arrange the items artfully and use your imagination to get the exact placement that you want. For example, if you're taking a picture of an apple try taking a bite out of it to give it some added interest.

Fill the Frame with Your Still Life Subject

Remember, the only thing that should be in your viewfinder or on your preview LCD screen is your composition. Remove any clutter and get up close with your camera. What if there's a background you don't want? The soft box or light box solves this issue, but if you are shooting outside, here's something you can do: place a piece of white foam board or piece of material behind your subject, and voila - no more distracting background. Be sure to use Macro mode so that you get a sharp image.

Look for a Good Angle - and Shoot!

Instead of shooting from your height, hold the camera so that it is level with your subject. Then take some shots from varying angles.

Hopefully these tips have provided you some helpful information on taking still life photos that you can start putting to use immediately.

Betfair Lay Betting Tips And Secrets - Are You A Backer Or A Layer?

If you place a 'back' bet with a bookmaker in the usual way and the bet wins, the bookmaker will pay out your winnings. If the bet loses then the bookmaker will keep your stake money. By taking bets from people in this traditional way enables the bookies to make millions of pounds profit each year. You become the 'backer'.

A 'layer' is the complete opposite of a 'backer', it's basically the same as playing the role of the bookmaker. Since the introduction of betting exchanges such as Betfair, you now have the unique opportunity to lay bets in the same way as a bookmaker. If the outcome of the event that you lay bet does indeed lose, then you get to keep the stake money just like the bookmaker. You become the 'layer'.

As people say "you don't see a poor bookie very often".

Therefore, you might want an answer to this question:-

If you can make money from lay betting in the same way as a bookie, by being a 'layer', why would anyone want to be a 'backer'?

Well, it depends on what you expect to achieve from lay betting, also what your general betting expectations are. Let me explain ...

The back bet - typical 'backers' attitude ...

Someone looking for a 'quick fix', knowing that each time they make a back bet the odds are stacked firmly against them, they are lured into 'backing' based purely on a hunch, or a betting tip, maybe from a mate at work. For handing over a relatively small amount of cash, combined with the exciting prospect of a possible good win looming, the temptation can be simply too much to resist.

If you enter a bookmaker's premises you will often observe many 'gamblers' with their lists of lucky numbers, betting tips, hot tips etc, going about the same routine always used to make their selections. A couple of minutes before each race, they hurriedly glance through the race card, make their selection then run to the counter to place their back bet, then invariably watch it lose. The strange thing is that they follow this same pattern race after race, day after day, week in week out ' and the bookies love them!

Now, I am not suggesting that every backer falls into the above categories. Sometimes, 'backers' will strive to put in the extra work needed, helping them with their final betting selections, by analysing stats, studying form, maybe taking advice, of following good quality betting tips etc.

If you fall into this category because you have developed your own unique method for selecting that really hot horse in a race, or statistics might be your thing, giving you a profitable edge to your favourite sport before you decide on that all important back bet. If so, I wish you luck because you have done extremely well, but you are very much in the minority.

The lay bet - typical 'layers' attitude ...

There is one very important thing that most 'backers' and 'layers' are likely to have in common - they both want to make as much money as possible in the shortest possible amount of time. This fact is undoubtedly true, but with some important differences. The 'layer' will not be expecting to make a killing from just one lay bet, therefore is likely to be more patient and better prepared, safe in the knowledge that the Betfair lay bet is readily available.

Patience will play a big part in all successful 'layers', their attitude to risk will be much better adjusted, knowing that their profit will come over a period of time by strictly following a good staking plan, they will only lay bet when their system indicates a strong lay betting opportunity.

Now we all know that it's much more difficult to pick a winner, than it is to pick a loser. Therefore, unlike the 'backer', the odds are stacked very much in the 'layers' favour as far as the probability of a successful lay bet is concerned.

Sometimes, this greatly increased chance of a successful lay bet can lure the inexperienced layer into the trap of thinking that lay betting is easy. Well it is easy to do, but you need to make confident lay bets based on sound judgement and analysis, always making sure that you are completely familiar with the type of event you are lay betting, no lay betting on whims, or hunches.

On the other hand, the experienced and clued up 'layer' will have complete confidence in their selection process, whilst adopting a highly disciplined and professional approach to their lay betting. They will never lay bet with money that is needed for other important things like household bills, only using money that is set aside purely for their lay betting activities. Sticking rigidly to a good solid staking plan they will never over commit themselves.

If your aim is to be highly successful at lay betting on Betfair, you should be looking to achieve a win rate of around 9 times out of 10. This is realistically achievable. Remember you are looking for losers, not winners.

I do hope this helps you to decide whether you are a 'backer' or a 'layer'. Thank you very much for reading this article.

It will come as no surprise to you that I am most definitely a 'layer’.

Which one are you?

Access to Health Care in U.S: Problems and the Bottom Line

Access encompasses both the ease and timeliness with which health services can be obtained (Office of health Care Access, 1999; Millman, 1993). Metrics of measuring access to health services include:

* Having health insurance,
* Adequate income, and
* A regular primary care provider or
* Other regular source of care (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, 2000).
* Utilization of certain clinical preventive services, such as, early prenatal care, mammography, and Pap tests, can also indicate better access to services.
* Rate of avoidable hospital admission

Health care models:

* Purely private enterprise: Exist in poorer countries with sub standard health care dominated by private clinics for wealthier population.
* In almost all the countries, a private system exists in addition to Government health care system (such as Medicare and Medicaid in U.S). This is sometimes referred to as Two-tier health care.
* The other major models are public insurance systems:

o Social Security Health Care model where workers and their families are insured by the State.
o Publicly funded health care model, where the residents of the country are insured by the State.
o Social Health Insurance, where the whole population or most of the population is a member of a sickness insurance company.

Models for access: access to health services can be impeded broadly by:

* Affordability: Economic barriers (no insurance, poverty),
* Availability: Supply and distribution barriers (inadequate or inappropriate services or primary care providers, geographic unavailability due to difficult infrastructure);
* Unavailability of services, lack of transportation and other infrastructure), and

Language and cultural barriers.

Discussion:
_________________________

A. Insurance coverage:
____________________

* Approximately 85% of Americans have health insurance.
* Approximately 60% obtain health insurance through their place of employment or as individuals,
* Various government agencies provide health insurance to 25% of Americans.[3].
* In 2004, 45.8 million (15.7%) Americans were without health insurance [1].
* According to 2000 U.S. census data [2], the percentage of large firms (200 employees or more) offering health benefits to its retirees fell between 1988 and 2001 (excepting a spike in 1995).
* Although most types of health insurance cover common treatment services and screening and diagnostic tests, many preventive services and interventions are not covered. For example, while most health insurers will pay to treat emphysema, lung cancer, and other tobacco-related diseases, for example, few will reimburse for smoking cessation programs or medications.

B. Economic condition:

Cost is a barrier. Cost is more likely to affect persons:

* Of Hispanic ethnicity,
* To affect unmarried persons,
* Those who did not graduate from high school, were four times more likely than college graduates to experience cost barriers to health care,
* People with income under $25,000

C. Availability:

Access barrier is intense in areas where the need is high but capacity of existing providers is insufficient.

* Hispanic is less likely than non-Hispanic respondents to have health-care coverage (76.2% versus 90.6%),
* They have one or more regular personal health-care providers (68.5% versus 84.1%), or
* They have a regular place of care (93.4% versus 96.2%).
* Hispanic has needs of medical care, but can not obtain it (6.5% versus 5.0%).
* Hispanics also are significantly less likely to be screened for blood cholesterol and for breast, cervical, and colorectal cancers and to receive a influenza / pneumococcal vaccination.

D. Language factor:

Language can be an obstacle to health care access for:

* People who do not speak English and
* For the deaf and hearing impaired.

According to the 1990 U.S. Census, about nine percent of Connecticut’s population was foreign born and 15% of children and older spoke a language other than English at home. Of this group, 39% did not speak English “very well”. . According to U.S. Census Bureau, 2001, 6 percent of population is hard of hearing, and 25,500 residents are considered profoundly deaf (Connecticut Commission on the Deaf and Hearing Impaired, 2001).

The ability of Connecticut’s health care providers to communicate with non-English speaking people and is very limited. In 2001, 35 percent of total physicians and surgeons practicing medicine in Connecticut indicated that a language other than English was spoken at their practice location (Connecticut Department of Public Health, Bureau of Regulatory Services, 2001). Spanish was the most frequently spoken language.

E. Cultural factor:

Cultural differences between Hispanics and other minorities and health care providers affect health-related behaviors in certain minority groups:

* lack of knowledge about Western medicine,
* fear of public institutions (based on experiences with discrimination),
* modesty about their bodies, and
* The belief in minority women that their own needs are secondary to those of their husbands and children (True and Guillermo, 1996).
* Hispanics have less knowledge about cancer. Cancer is increasing among Hispanics [4], and cancer screening, an essential component of early detection and treatment.
* Many non-Western women do not go directly to a physician when they are ill. Instead, they first attempt to treat themselves, and if that fails, they follow the recommendations of friends, family, and in some cases, alternative or folk healers (Bayne-Smith, 1996).
* Many health problems of minority women thus go unreported and unrecognized, in part because the women do not communicate the problems, but also because providers cannot relate to the women’s cultural norms (Bayne-Smith, 1996).
* Lesbians are less likely than heterosexual women to seek health care and more likely to encounter barriers in access to care and preventive services. For example, many women who have sex only with women believe they do not need Pap tests, and confusion even exists in clinical practices about whether lesbians should be offered cervical smears routinely (Bailey et al., 2000).

? Do Medicare and Medicaid contribute to barriers to access so far we think about the delinquencies in reimbursement?
? Does it anyway refer to the question of availability of health care providers?

The U.S Health care ranking is very poor in relation to other industrialized nations in health care despite having

* the best trained health care providers and
* the best medical infrastructure

The ranking are as bellow:

* 23rd in infant mortality,
* 20th in life expectancy for women and 21st for men
* 67th in immunization, right behind Botswan
* Rank below Canada and a wide variety of industrialized nations on outcome studies on a variety of diseases, such as coronary artery disease, and renal failure.

The ranking is poor because, the access barrier is intense in U.S. Access to Health care. Difficulty in accessing to health care to 30% Americans is based on the ability to pay (disparity is directly related to income and race) [5].

Managed care organizations spend 20 % of their premium behind administration while it is only 3% in Medicare. Moreover, Managed care covers 60% of the population while Medicare and Medicaid cover 25%. About 17% of U.S population is uninsured of which, two-third has trouble accessing/paying for health care. As Medicaid covers mainly uninsured population, therefore, we may presume that high administrative cost of care providers and quickly decreasing reimbursement rate in Medicaid is a major cause of access barrier to minorities and disadvantaged so long we bark on ‘availability’ of care.

The bottom line:

Possible options to remove access barrier

* Reducing fundamental socio-economic inequities (almost absent in U.S),
* Expanding insurance coverage,
* Expanding access to Public health (preventive) services that reduce risk factors to chronic diseases and injuries.
* Prompt and effective primary care in a doctor’s office or other outpatient setting, followed by proper management can reduce the need for hospitalization for many medical conditions, such as asthma, dehydration, urinary tract infections, and perforated or bleeding ulcers (Foland, 2000; Office of Health Care Access, 2000). These conditions are referred to as “ambulatory care sensitive” hospital admissions.
* When early care is delayed or foregone, the result is often “avoidable” or “preventable” hospitalizations which can indicate:
o problems with access to primary health care services or
o Inadequate outpatient management and follow-up, because Three out of four “avoidable” hospital admissions occur through emergency rooms (Foland, 2000).
* Health Literacy and removing cultural barrier by social services and public health programs: Many patients lack the reading and comprehension skills helpful for maintaining a healthy lifestyle and to function in the U.S. health care system. These deficits result not only from poverty and low educational attainment, but also from differences in language and culture. Because of the inability of patients to read and understand health-related information:
o infants are being born with birth defects,
o diseases are being diagnosed at advanced stages, and
o Medications are being taken improperly.
* Removing cultural barriers to lifestyle and medication that have proven effective for controlling weight, blood pressure, cholesterol, and blood sugar should help reduce the large inequities in chronic disease.
* Universal health care (single or multi payer).
